im nowhere near done, but im not used to doing sudoku's that are anywhere near this caliber

I just go through putting in all the little green numbers, then work from there.

im used to having 7's in my start puzzle

it really doesn't make any difference, except that you won't have any other numbers alone right off the bat

i like to do what i can before i start putting all the small numbers in, cuz i never had to use the small ones b4 this website

I fill in what I can as I notice it when I'm doing the green numbers - it just makes it easier to see.

all green done; some other ones filled in; now going for the clear. seems like an easy puzzle.

the harder a puzzle is, the more essential the small numbers are

I tend to make cycles, I do the "1's" first, marking down spots where there are only two places for ones in a square, and places where there are only one.

you tend to spot certain patterns as you go that way

though mostly it's a result of the program I learned on... you selected a number and then just put that one in and out

takes me maybe 4-5 minutes to put the greens in

I think it probably is - you don't have to check every row and box and column for every square, just go across the lines

If you click Shift + nr, you get green for possible. With Cntrl you get red for not possible.

Save first, then check out "how to play" about how to use "pencil marks"

non - save your grid so far, then click on rules at the top of the page, they tell you about little red/green numbers you can enter as potentials. Same as you might if you pencilled them in on paper. : )

Jeez, I thought for a while there I'd solve this one without using any reds or greens

i m starting to get the hang of this puzzle

Although I by now have only finished one Ironsudoku, I instantly thought to myself "This one looks easy" when I saw today's.

It does look easy. Now I'm stuck with lots of 6&7 candidate cells

So I'm not sure it is, not for me anyway :P

How do you people decide where to start?

GingerUK, I usually just search for a "third column" to fill.

Usually I start checking for obvious ones, then begin the laborious task of marking the candidates for every cell. Usuall do that one box at a time, from left to right, top down

what do you mean by 'third column' ?

my fiance taught me to work through the numbers, starting with one, trying to fill in the obvious ones first

yeah, I try the obvious ones route but sometimes they are not so obvious!!! to me anyway!

GingerUK, 'third column' is what some would call the obvious one. If you have a certain number in two neighbour columns (or rows), the third one is often quite easy to find. That is my favorite technique. And that is the easy technique ;)

Yeah, that's my favourite as well ;) It's strangely satisfying when you spot one. Sadly it will rarely be enough to complete a puzzle, but it can sometimes get you quite far

you know, 3 squares in a row, 3 parallel lines with 2 equals. check all horisontals and verticals. eliminate all possibles from 1 to 9 awerywere :)
