Ah, well. I hope the last week of classes is enjoyable.
I'm busy entering green numbers ... not far enough along to be stuck yet. 8-)

i have a feeling i will enjoy class cuz the last paper we got back i got an 80 on(ranked 5th out of 21 students) and asked him about one mark on my paper, let him run his mouth for a couple of min and the next thing i know, he changes my grade to a 90

The stubbornness of youth! Well, if you can do it without memory aids ... good. I usually can't. I usually start off without marking, but then mark pairs and triplets as they occur. For "expert", I start by marking.

A 90 in a summer course is usually considered to be pretty good. Congrats!

no, a research paper and then the final too, i think

i dont have the syllabus right in front of me, but i do know i have a write a 1500 word research paper

You do understand that it usually isn't an ordinary paper that is worth as much as a research paper and a final exam combined?

If I have to GUESS and can't use logic to beat this puzzle, I really don't want to play it that much.

well if I have to make a guess, then I would be pissed off too

but until now, it looks fine

at some point, you may need to make either a very complicated logical deduction, or you can simply say "either this cell is X or it's Y. what happens if it's X?"

I think they can all be solved by logic, but not all of us can do it strictly with logic. :)

There is a large difference between deduction and logic.

It is still logical that in order to solve to puzzle one must work from two probabilities of which only one will work.

The puzzle can not be solved by weeding out every single answer, so say some, in order to find one solution for every square in a way which does not require trial and error.

no, it can. it can be solved by deduction. it's just that deduction takes lots more effort than hypothesis, trial and error

I just finished, and I actually did guess.

Even though I said I didn't wnat to, I was spiteful for someone saying you had to guess, so I was going to guess as best as I could (haha) and show myself how bad guessing would be....but it worked.

I just can't win.

I'm done, and yes, I did make several guesses, but they were all (for once) the right ones. ;)

What exactly does any individual win by guessing at Sudoku?

I guess... chose a spot with only 2 possibilities and insert 1 of them there. If lucky, go ahead and if not, start over... isn't it?

as far as I know you don't win anything whether you guess or not

I also guessed twice and it worked out. Seemed a little strange to me that at least 3 people guessed and it "worked out" for all of us, so i went back and guessed the other way on one of my guesses. Guess what, that worked too. IE, Invalid sudoku, but fun either way.

i start with something fifty-fifty and see where it leads. i turn the guesses red so i don't lose work.

the strange behavior started yesterday, it had a firefox running and went to screensave mode and wouldn't come back to life. I had to svith it off and it happend after 2 attempts. Today Firefox dodn't want to force quit and i had to restart again. Now, i was doing my puzzle and started marking greens when the screan saveior gone down like a blind on a window (!) and mesage appearred that i had to svitch off my machine!!! drammatic or what

starting marking again...

I keep going back in time, it's the 6's and 1's that are baffling to me..... maybe a hint about either a 1 or a 6 in the upper right quadrant?

in the upper right quad, the 6 is in the upper left position.

many thanks, I kept filling up the middle vertical rows, getting to the right vertical and getting stuck with which was really a 6...... appreciated!
