I cannot figure out how to use the red number versus the green numbers?

Try entering the numbers while holding down the shift key (green) or the "alt" key (red).

I am not sure what you mean. All the numbers are loaded onto the grid already in red and green. I just don't know how to choose which reds to use after I have gone through the grids and eliminated the obiouse ones and entered in the correct number.

To get rid of one red or green, select it a second time the same way you did the first time.

I know how to get rid of them what I don't know is how to choose them. I eliminate all the number in a particular cell and put in the correct numbers. That just takes me so far. Then I am stuck so I guess for one cell and see where that takes me. If I get to where I have a blank cell then I return to the check point and try another number until I get it right?

That is the hard way to do it ... but the way we all start out. There are techniques, logical algorithms if you will, that most of us use. Sometimes we still end up guessing on really hard ones (or using greens and reds to remind us of what we have narrowed it down to). If you search on Google or Bing for "How to Solve Sudoku puzzles" you will find numerous tutorials.
