finally an "expert" puzzle thats challenging

it just looks 'expert'. Pick the right pair to 'guess' from, and it goes really fast. Disappointingly fast. It's nothing like the real 'expert' we had a week or so ago.

anyway, good luck everybody. Just wanted to say it can be done. : )

GOT IT ON THE 4TH TRY. DIDN'T SOLVE IT UNTIL I CHANGED MY WAY OF THINKING AFTER 4TH CORRECT NUMBER. NUMEROUS PAIRS THEN BEGAN TO EMERGE AND I WAS ABLE TO ELIMINATE A LOT OF NUMBERS AND THE PUZZLE FELL INTO PLACE FAIRLY EASILY AFTER THAT. GOOD LUCK TO EVERYONE. THIS IS A TOUGH ONE.

True. I got three of numbers fairly quickly. Stared, went to a meeting, drank some coffee, stared some more, surfed the web, THEN forced a chain. Stared some more. Drank more coffee. Then figured it out.

More like that, please. Makes the day a bit more interesting. :^)

wow - easiest expert so far!

what made this expert unusual is that the "search" mode came early in the puzzle. Once you've solved that search, everything else fell into place by direct elimination, no more puzzle-solving needed.

I wouldn't call it "easy" -- my criterion for easiness is number of squares I have to mark, and this was a bear for that.

I am new to sudoku. Can someone tell me how I can save what I have done.

Marigold: Welcome! And it's been a while since I was new here, and I don't remember if you have a "save checkpoint" button at the bottom of your puzzle, or if that comes with the pro-account.

I do not have a save checkpoint button. I have a pro account with babble. Do I need a separate account for sudoku?

If you don't have that button, I'm afraid the only ways are either to upgrade to the pro account (which is a very reasonable $15 for life) or just draw a grid on scrap-paper and write down what you have.

And yeah, babblers still need a separate account here. But at least I never feel bad about supporting Dr.God :)

Thank you elara6. I have just upgraded. Now have a checkpoint save button. But some of the numbers do not appear. There is a red x in the box instead.

I am o.k. now. When I put a number in the box and the box turns yellow for a few seconds does this mean that the number is correct.

Nope, the yellow doesn't mean it's right. It just does that as you select. However, if you try to place a number that creates an error based on your current puzzle (like if you try to put 2 7's in the same row, for example), then it'll turn red to tell you that you have a conflict that needs to be resolved

But the only way to know if it's right is if you can solve it in the end. Otherwise, you could have an error in there and might not even know til the very end when you find you can't solve it

Welcome :) If you find today's hard, now that you have a pro you can go back and do the archived puzzles too. You may want to poke around and find an easy to get yourself going if you're new to sudoku. :)

Stephanie - it seems on these you have to use some of the advanced solving strategies... or as some people do, keep track of different "guesses" / branches
