There is no way that was an expert - more like a medium - I used greens because it said "expert" but I probably didn't have to.

Gretchen, I'll give pictures a shot next week, though I hope I don't get them confused with the ink blot tests my shrink uses :)

someone correct me but there's no way to easily gut the solution once you arrive at 257068403600053007030040560163005004005324000

Notice all the resident geniuses did not answer you. They use the Magic Eight Ball. The question is, how did they arrive at solving the middle square in the first column at the point you are at gman without using greens, lol? That is the key to cracking this, imho, an it requires eliminating several unrelated numbers in other rows and columns. Short answer? No, you're right gman. They are good guessers, plain and simple.

gman, I can confirm that you're right so far, I had trouble with this one, I put it down to several interruptions which didn't allow me to get into it. I did have to guess not even an 'inspirational leap' but a pure and simple guess, got lucky!

Jackt - I usually have a lot of trouble with experts and can't finish them without guessing even using greens but this one went together very easily for me. Different puzzles give different people fits and just because you are having trouble, doesn't mean the rest of us had to resort to guessing. When I have to guess, I admit it. And I'm certainly no expert at this. Sometimes what numbers you are able to fill in first makes a difference to how it can be solved. I can't answer Gman's question once my puzzle is already completed but I can say I definitely did not guess at this one.

I am still stuck. I get down to about 8 cells and I have an open cell. I usually do 'Experts' rather easily. So this is unusual for me. What is the Magic Eight Ball? Never heard of that before. Still need help if anyone is out there.

check the 7s in the middle column...esp. in the bottom two blocks....it places the 7 easily in the top block, which opened up the puzzle for me. Hope this helps

Gretchen, we all have trouble with these. Don't believe everything you read here. There's satisfaction in solving these tough ones whether by logic or by trial and error, or by intuition lol. Sometimes the greens can be a handicap cluttering up the board the way they do. Most here take pride in solving without using greens and I have to say it does open your mind up to looking at these from a different perspective if that's one of your primary goals. I looked at your crack and couldn't see it, but I believe you; hey, there's often more than one path to follow in solving these.
