Mr Ooijer is correct. It is the world's oldest board game. Some say the opposite color circles in the Yin Yang symbol are Go stones. check out www.usgo.org

Actually, I believe Mr. Ooijer is being extremely modest when he says he has played Go.

hmmm... that game reminds me a little bit of a grown up version of a kid's game I used to play called othello.

drwho: way cool solution for the 9. I think the is a y-wing or some such solution for an 8 somewhere in the middle of the board (also a very difficult solution). I was just saying that anyone who could logically complete the puzzle was a way better person than I am.

drwho: My last thoughts on the expert from Friday. Your convoluted (and correct) solution for the 9 @R6C1 gave 4 more numbers but the final solution needed a y-wing at R5C9, R6C7, & R8C7. this eliminated the 6 as a candidate in R8C9, causing it to be a 9 and solving the puzzle. These 2 advaced techniques were the only way to logically solve Fridays expert without guessing (or making a lucky mistake).
