Easy enough
12:28 am
hoaf
Did you mark?
12:28 am
sprite
Nope. Not really necessary with this one.
12:30 am
lawfully
looks tricky, though not impossible...
12:30 am
hoaf
Sprite's good with these, I think.
12:30 am
sprite
There were lots of hidden pairs in this one.
12:31 am
hoaf
I'm catching 'em, bit by bit ... what time is it where you live, Sprite?
12:32 am
hoaf
It's 10:32pm for me. I'm tired. :^P
12:32 am
sprite
lol! That's it, I was up bright and early, all ready for the day :) (NOT!)
12:32 am
lailie
this new one was soooo much easier :)
12:33 am
sprite
wtg lailie :)
12:33 am
hoaf
Why get up sooo early? I'm lucky if I make it out of bed by 8:00am ...
12:33 am
sprite
Kids must go to school. And preferably must be fed by then.
12:34 am
hoaf
Given food or fed to something?
12:34 am
sprite
LOL! Depends on their behaviour!
12:35 am
hoaf
My icon's a picture of my pride and joy circa 2 months ago ...
12:35 am
sprite
Wow, adorable! And some will of her own, if I read that look correctly...
12:36 am
hoaf
Yep. Likes to bend us to HER schedule.
12:36 am
sprite
Good for her ;)
12:36 am
hoaf
I can't wait until she starts talking. Actually, I can.
12:37 am
hoaf
How old're yours? Mine's 6 1/2 months.
12:37 am
sprite
Wait till she starts talking back, you'll regret the day she said "dada". Or not.
12:37 am
sprite
Mine are 10 and 8. They talk back.
12:38 am
hoaf
Ah, hell. She'll have me wrapped around her finger. I'm already resigned to it.
12:38 am
hoaf
That's what duct tape is for!
12:38 am
sprite
Great invention, duct tape. Saved my life.
12:38 am
hoaf
Perfect for those "But I REALLY WANT A PONY" situations.
12:38 am
sprite
And theirs.
12:39 am
sprite
Nah, actually they are pretty great kids. I love them to bits and am very proud of them. But what is the fun in chatting in that way ;)
12:39 am
hoaf
Man, I'm blind today. This is taking too long. *sigh*
12:40 am
sprite
Stop chatting. Start concentrating. LOL.
12:40 am
hoaf
You're in the Netherlands? Do your kids speak English as well?
12:41 am
sprite
They learn to at school, from the age of 8.
12:41 am
sprite
And of course what they pick up from computergames, which is probably even more ;)
12:42 am
hoaf
I'm working on the bilingual thing, myself. Mostly from Kung fu flicks. :^D
12:42 am
sprite
That's hard enough. Especially to duplicate the way the mouths don't move consistent with the talk :)
12:43 am
hoaf
Especially since the friggin' Mandarin films are dubbed into Cantonese, and vice-versa. Sheesh.
12:43 am
sprite
I'd call that a challenge. A BIG one.
12:43 am
hoaf
But I do love watching the Korean martial arts flicks dubbed into Spanish. They're GREAT!
12:46 am
hoaf
Finally. I think it's bedtime for Bonzo, here.
12:46 am
hoaf
Have a swell night!
12:46 am
hoaf
Er, morning.
12:46 am
sprite
night hoaf, cuddle that great kid of yours from me :)
12:46 am
hoaf
And thanks.
12:47 am
hoaf
I would ... but the girls (wife and child) are in friggin' CHINA right now.
12:47 am
hoaf
I miss 'em. Well, I don't miss the crying at 4am thing, but overall ...
12:47 am
sprite
Argh! You have to save the cuddles then...
12:47 am
hoaf
I will. I'll try not to smother the girl next time I see her. :^)
12:48 am
sprite
Then I wish you some great dreams of the two of them :)
12:48 am
lawfully
done, should have spotted the hidden pair long ago...
12:48 am
sprite
yep, they are the key to the whole thing today.
1:24 am
chrissie2006
I can never figure out what you guys mean when you talk about pairs and triplets :S
1:29 am
poreid
Chrissie, I'm not good at explaining it, but if you search on google, you can find sites that give good explanations and examples. It's a way of eliminating certain options by identifying pairs of squares that have similar/same options
4:09 am
bzikofski
this one is quite hard - i can't find any numbers !!! what a puzzle
4:18 am
bzikofski
seems like it's all about the pairs techniques here
7:02 am
eyeman
whew, got it but had to guess a 2.
7:26 am
drwho
Computer rating: 17. I think it might be harder than that.
7:32 am
NJL
done...that wasn't to hard
7:35 am
franebrown
YES it was! Unless I learn of the pairs, triples, etc., I'll remain too frustrated to continue. Today makes it 3 impossible days in a row................
7:36 am
franebrown
I meant to say: YES it IS!
7:39 am
drwho
Suppose you have a row with several empty squares, but you know that two of those squares can only contain 2 of the missing digits...
7:41 am
drwho
...and suppose that the 2 squares that can only contain 2 digits (but you don't know which order) are also in the same 3x3 region.
7:42 am
drwho
Then you can eliminate the possiblity of those 2 missing digits appearing in any of the other empty squares in the 3x3 region.
7:43 am
drwho
Similar logic can be applied to columns and regions or regions and rows or regions and columns.
9:00 am
bzikofski
done without guessing
9:00 am
bzikofski
used only some technique - probably hidden pair
10:05 am
Jerry
It all gets real easy when you discover the 7 X-wing in the rows.
10:06 am
bzikofski
x-wing ?
10:08 am
Jerry
If a number appears in only two cells of a row, and there is a second row with the same two numbers only in the same two columns, you can eliminate that number from all other cells in the two columns. The same holds true for columns.
10:08 am
bzikofski
ah yea
10:09 am
bzikofski
i didnt know that it's called x-wing but i found it, specifically in the 1st and 3rd block (top left + top right)
10:12 am
bzikofski
that also applies to two cells of a block, doesn't it?
10:14 am
Jerry
Im not sure what you mean. An X-wing requires four cells in two rows (or columns)
10:18 am
bzikofski
http://bzikofski.civ.pl/xwing.gif
10:20 am
bzikofski
i mean that the numbers can also be separated in a block (placed aslant)
10:20 am
bzikofski
what's the word for that ? is aslant ok?
10:21 am
bzikofski
(PS note that it's just an example - i moved the numbers to illustrate the example ;)
10:27 am
Jerry
Yes, I see what you mean
10:32 am
bzikofski
what's the word for the slanted position ? if two numbers are next to each other it would be parallel or horizontal
10:33 am
Jerry
You could say diagonal, but aslant is OK
10:33 am
bzikofski
diagnoal
10:33 am
bzikofski
cool thanks
10:34 am
bzikofski
i catch the oportunity to update my lingo ;)
10:54 am
RodeoRogue
begin...
11:09 am
RodeoRogue
not too terribly difficult. No green
11:41 am

hello everybody
11:48 am
bzikofski
i'm at 187 - it's hard but i'm finishing it. no special tricks needed
11:50 am
bzikofski
now 189 - it's easy - i must finish it without any greens ! :)
12:01 pm
yul
finished. have a nice day, everybody
12:47 pm
bzikofski
189 is quite hard. i'd say medium ;) but done
12:48 pm
Jerry
Where do you get the 189 number? My Archive list is not numbered.
12:48 pm
bzikofski
go to any archive puzzle - you'll see the number in the URL
12:50 pm
bzikofski
no probs. i'm trying to complete the ones i didnt have time to..
1:02 pm
bzikofski
here's my lousy progress: http://bzikofski.civ.pl/sudoku.gif ;)
1:51 pm
tsianami
that one was one of the easiest I've done
1:51 pm
tsianami
It is pretty neat to see how people think differently.
3:12 pm
Minski
I always use the green numbers. I find it easiest to go through from 1 to 9 in each box and mark with green what each square can be. Then I just eliminate possibilities. It always involves some guessing, but if you save your work when you are sure, you can always go back.
4:35 pm
Minski
Done again!!
