I have a Dyson Animal which I like alot. I think there are too many obstacles in my house for the robot one.

They are responsible for vacuuming my house

i also have the dyson. i like it a lot too but i wondered about in between major vacuumings if the roomba would save me some work

it is fun but you have to empty it every time after the cleaning

the dyson is great - i was able to vacuum up a lot of dust from the basement yesterday, gotta love no clogging.

yul - do you know what size things it is able to pick up? like could it pick up a small pebble/large grain of sand? half a grain of rice, that sort of size?

and how does the roomba handle cat hair?

or long human hair, for that matter.

does hair clog it easily though? i always have to cut my hairs off the vacuum brush...

I don't think there is a vacuum that doesn't end up with hair clogs on the brush....

it picks up lots of cat hair but you have to unload roomba of everythin after each clean, which is a nuisance. i newer saw it clogs

dumping out stuff takes a minute - a lot faster than vacuuming :)

I really like mine.

it does great with my short cat hair, it's only my hair (which is very long) that gets wound around the brush. which doesn't make it not work, or anything, but you do have to cut it off now and then, like any vacuum.

the great thing about the dyson is that it is powerful, picks up heavyish things no problem, never loses suction - vacuum up all those pine needles after christmas no problem, etc

i definitely recommend it.

roomba is fine for medium size rooms and you have to pick up all knokable items of the floor before letting roomba running loose

I have 2 cats with long hair and periodically have to clean out the brush, but not every time. It dumps everything into the trash easily too.

sigh... i keep buying stuff lately...

it's reasonable. it will depend where you have it, if it is shut in a room with a cat door that would be quieter.

i mean it has to suck out all the waste, so you can only make that so quiet.

Sounds like the new basement will be a good place for it.

but it's not horrendously loud, certainly.

yeah if you have it in a basement, cat door access, you probably won't hear it at all.

I'd like one for every floor, but I don't think I can afford it or find enough out of the way places to put it. I'm wondering how much it will spook the cats.

they give you tips in the manual about how to acclimate your cats to it. mine were a little freaked out by the working of it at first but it didn't really seem to make them not want to use it, and now they are used to it and even enjoy watching it.

That would be amusing entertainment.

it is SO fun to watch, even for me. it's been almost a month now so i am finally starting to be able to tear myself away...

and i have 3 cats all just using the one box in a multi-floor house, and it's working fine.

BTW, my two longhairs are in the hospital for observation, one w/ asthma and the other with a liver problem. The short hair scaredy cat is starting to get used to being an only cat.
