Mr. O: yes loners do increase the difficulty score. I distinguish 2 forms of cross-hatching, rows and columns vs. blocks. I consider cross-hatching rows and columns harder than cross-hatching blocks. Finding loaners is the most difficult easy technique, in my scoring system.
