i dont like autofill, I'd rather do it myself then I see hidden pairs as I go

yup, one hidden pair unlocked the whole thing for me. it involves a 5/8, for those of you who hate hidden pairs as much as i do :)

how do you work out hidden pairs?

Say for instance you have 1, 2 and 3 in only 3 cells in a row - so you know those 3 have to be those 3 numbers. You can eliminate all other numbers from those boxes, and also eliminate 1, 2 and 3 from the other cells in that row - sometimes a hidden pair will emerge.

linda... in general, f you try it with pairs (two) rather than three, it might be easier to start... but not necessarily in this puzzle. and mamabear, thanks so much for the hint

well after I found the hidden in row 4, I went so far and then ended up guessing. But I was lucky and guessed right the first time. I don't like to guess either, but not worth losing brain cells over either! good luck
