I've been trying to learn how to do the experts better without guesswork, using www.sudokiwiki.org/sudoku.htm
But the problem is that it just says, "here's an x-cycle" (for instance, that's how this one gets solved), without giving a good guide as to how to spot them. Otherwise, you've got to investigate every combination of cells. Some clues as to how to find those would be very helpful. I *have* started to be able to find X-wings and Y-wings.

spellacked - the best book I have found on sudoku is "Mensa guide to solving sudoku" It has all the expert techniques with examples and lucid explanations of why the technique works. It is available on Amazon. Also has 100s of puzzles that use the different techniques
