The point is dr who, you are much less likely to be killed by a knife than a gun and far less likely to have multiple deaths.

Actually the point is that guns don't cause the violence. However, I will put up with the increased danger to retain my liberty. Freedom is not for the faint of heart.

Lot of misinformation going on about the shooter in Orlando. We hear he frequented the club, now we hear he never set foot in there before the fateful day. His comments about ISIS were to 911 and there is yet to be any proof that he was directed by ISIS or was self radicalized. Maybe DOJ is waiting to prove one way or the other. Say what you will about Obama admin but if they find a link to ISIS someone will get a visit from a drone.

Guns do not cause the violence, we have heard that over and over. I would rather be assaulted in Scotland or knifed in Rio than shot in Buffalo.

There doesn't seem much doubt that he was homosexual, whether or not he frequented that club.

Freedom is for everyone, faint of heart or macho gun toter. Cars do not kill people, faulty cars and bad drivers kill people. You have to license your auto and can sue the manufacturer if your auto is faulty and you can't drive an Indy car or a tank on our streets. Why can't we accept that there is no loss of freedom if we regulate guns. After all they are just a tool. No different than a car or a knife. What makes the gun so "sacred"? The tingle you get when firing a potential lethal weapon?

Actually there is some doubt about his sexuality.

No, there are at least 3 independent sources for that.

Besides that, he was a registered Democrat. Seems appropriate to register Democrats if we are also going to register gun owners :)

well said taco, liberty should be the right to not live in fear of being shot. The gun lobby touts freedom and liberty but it should be a balance, as in everything in life. We have to have some rules to live by.

Freedom from fear is not freedom at all.

Fear is the mind killer. To quote the Bene Gesserit :-)

dr who, you are so wrong. We do not live in fear of getting shot here in Australia, We have a lot of unpredictable people on meth which is a major problem here. But everyone would be in fear if you would allow them to walk into a gun shop and walk out with an assault rifle.

A little fear now and then is a good thing. It motivates us to act.

Beautiful bit of political theater today. Republicans voted against restricting sale of guns to anyone on terror watch list.

Fear is used as a weapon. I shall fear no evil.

Sounds like the gun control lobby. Guns are scary!

Guns aren't scary. Cars aren't scary. Put either of them in the hands of stupid people and well you know the rest.
12:57 am

Yup, and car kill far more people than guns.
12:58 am

Gun owners should have to buy insurance like car owners. In case their gun is stolen or an unlicensed gun owner uses their gun and causes personal or property damage.

Years ago I was in the Binghamton area and I had a sandwich called a speedy (or maybe speedie). I've never found anything like it since.

Spiedie. Yup traditionally marinated pork. Cooked on a skewer like a poor man's shish kebob. We have a yearly Spiedie Fest and Balloon Rally here. Just across Route 81 from where I live. The balloonists are a pain in the ass. The drop down over my backyard. I think they try to get a peek at my wife. :-)

They have a spiedie contest during the festival. Different categories for different proteins. Best marinade, etc.. They just started serving beer again after about 20 years of no alchohol. They stopped after a drunk killed a couple pedestrian

I remember it was very tasty. The other thing I miss is the subs or hoagies I could get out east. Nothing here compares.

It is local lore how someone in every generation from here believes they are going to move somewhere else and make it big selling spiedies. Unfortunately there has never been anyone to succeed. Once you have your 3rd or 4th sandwich or sub they lose their appeal. We still eat them but there are only 2 or 3 really good places in the area that make a living off them.

Give me a traditional lamb shish ke bob any day over a spiedie.

Norwegian cuisine is not known for its use of spices, so Minnesota fare is rather bland. We do have corn on the cob at the end of summer every year.
