Joey Biden had a slice of Aussie sport at the MCG today watching the Blues take on the Eagles (Carlton V West Coast). Think he was a little confused at the spectacle but not half as confused by the players and commentators struggling to get in the ground because of what seemed like thousands of US Secret Service Agents getting in the way. They looked pretty ridiculous and very overkill for Australia. We are quite capable of providing security for dignitaries so it is a little insulting. Maybe the security service don't want the VP to actually appear human and talk to everyday people? We just had an election where our political leader can walk down the street with a discreet security entourage and actually talk to the public. Glad I live here!

Phil, you & I are generally on the same wavelength, but please give the US Secret Service a break on this one. The VP is a HUGE target, and even though you Aussies are far more advanced in many respects (guns, etc.) than we in the US, there are a ton (tonne) of wackos, crazies and terrorists out there that would like nothing more than to get a US VP. I envy the culture of Australia (and my former foster home, Canada), but I fear the US won't get there any time soon.

In my opinion all the ills of society go back to the way we characterize success and the way we marginalize the less successful. Success is all that matters to most humans. We can see that right here.

The only poverty I see is in the social and moral bankruptcy endemic in corporate America. Every level of society is attuned to the privileges which come to those who prey on the weak. Greed is good; money for nothing, chicks for free; the MainStream Media, for whom integrity only gets in the way of a good story.

Civilization takes a step back every five thousand years or so. It's natural. There is no morality in Nature. This time though it will involve two and three stage nuclear weaponry. The MIC in its infinite wisdom has been hard at it, exporting its nuclear arsenal and deploying it around the world.

Hiroshima was 164 kiloton bomb, but when it detonated less than 2% of its fissionable material was consumed. Bombs today are as much as a thousand times larger and ten to twenty times more efficient. We, in our folly, may be part of the first anthropomorphic extinction event in geologic history, and the last.

DING. A nice little X-wing that is not reducible to a line crosshatch, and a unique rectangle, always good to see. 26.

Just having a dig Diane, to see streets shut and armoured motorcades in Australia. Crazies everywhere true but we don't let them have assault rifles! Sad to see another attack on Police in the US, I'm sure they too walked in and legally bought their weapons. Can't infringe their rights can we.

Tuco, there you go blaming the system again. People live in the inner city because they are poor. But if they make wise choices, like not getting pregnant without first getting married, they can get out of poverty and the inner city.
Time to hold people responsible for their actions and stop blaming the system.

Tuco, what the Chicago School of economics did for Chile was give them a plan, which Chile did not follow! They implemented the parts they liked and ignored the parts they didn't.
You can't blame the doctor if you get sicker when you don't follow his advice.
