ellenz, I agree, national defense is the 1 thing government can do better than anyone else. I'm not claiming government does do anything well. It could if it had the proper incentive, but how do you motivate an institution that has the power of law behind everything it does? In fact, because (in theory) everything the government does is rooted in law, they don't have the freedom to experiment and innovate.
