I think jackt and Diane, you've highlighted the biggest problem, both candidates were very flawed yet the parties put them up as their best. Shows how far out of touch with reality of the majority of the party members are. It also highlights how divisive the campaign was.

Phil, yes Clinton is flawed, unfortunately her flaws are wildly exaggerated by the propaganda machine that jackt is parroting. There is on silver lining for me with the election of Trump. The odds that I will be driving to work in the snow have decreased now that we have elected a Climate Science denier as POTUS.

And we have elected a VPOTUS who believes in Pray Away The Gay and that you should subject a doctor to "offer parents" the "remains" of a terminated pregnancy.

The problem with saying they are "both flawed" is that it sets up a false equivalency. Trump has said there should be "punishment" for a woman who terminates a pregnancy. He has also said Climate Science is a hoax. Pence has put forth bills to move AIDS/HIV money to Conversion therapy. These are facts. Clinton's "flaws" are accusations. Never proven in a court of law or after countless millions spent on investigations.

Yes jackt and drWho Hillary lost, but have you noticed that not only is Trumps win historical for him being only the 2nd candidate in 40 years not to divulge his tax returns but he is the 5th candidate to win the Presidency without winning the Popular vote.

Lets pray to God that he doesn't do anything more historic. Like matching the "achievements" of the last Republican POTUS elected by many of the same electorate.

Tuco, so the FACTS are Dems had more registered voters than the Pubs and on Tues, the day of ACTION, they undershowed at the polls and the Pubs showed up in mass...and the results came out on Tues night...so the Dems PROTEST ON WEDNESDAY...about the RESULT... At least we all live in democracies where it's ultimately the people that decide. We do need to learn to live with each other and not get so angry. Yes the world is scared that someone so unpredictable has so much power. However I think Trump will change the way he operates. He's clever enough to now how to win an election through spouting garbage. He may yet prove to go against all that when he's dealing with world leaders. In many ways he's like Putin, volatile and unpredictable. Personally I'd be surprised if it doesn't all end in tears. Just hope the world doesn't suffer too badly as a result.

Phil, in America we live in a republic rather than a democracy. We choose our president by having each state's electoral college representatives vote for the will of the people in their state. In a true democracy, the president would be whoever wins the most votes nationwide, with no regard to which state a voter lives in. The total vote count is not yet completed, we are told, but it looks as though Hillary will be the winner of the popular vote. And that will generate a huge controversy which may ultimately result in the USA finally deciding to become a true democracy. We can only hope....

Perhaps you would like to expound on Obama's proposal from long ago that we view the map of the country not as red states and blue states but as the United States. We might all be able to join you in harmony with that.
