You're right SJ, that's why I personally think this is a great opportunity for everyone to come up with a better system, one for our current world and it's future. No easy task, but there has to be something better.

Phil I doubt it will happen. The U.S. would have to admit to its people that we are the dominant power in the world not by our "moral authority" but through our military superiority. That the reason we have military bases circling the globe is to preserve our economic empire. We would also have to come to terms with our system being inherently racist due to the fact that the electoral college was created to give slave holding states proportional representation based on their slaves being counted as 3/5 of a human. Even though the slaves could not vote nor share in the rights granted by our constitution.

And even though we fought a civil war and slavery was abolished apartheid existed in this country for another 100+ years.

This history is not taught in the for profit charter schools, home school, or religous based school curriculum and very rarely in the public schools.

I cannot believe how "fortunate" we are that we have
Tuco to provide the "truth" about U.S. history. I guess
we can just ignore any facts or interpretations not
consistent with his final word on all things political.
And to think of all the time I have wasted going to school
and reading books when I could just ask Tuco to give me
my opinion.

It looked completely different without an early mistake. 16.

Nothing Tuco, nothing. As usual you are correct.

Tuco: the popular vote is immaterial. Trump won in a landslide
in the vote that counts, the electoral college. He could have
spent all his time campaigning in California, Florida and Texas
and won the popular vote, but he would have lost the electoral
college vote and Hillary would be President.

Phil: the House of Lords is an example of a republican form of
government. It is a representative body. It primarily represents
the interests of the Queen. The House of Commons represents
the people. The genius of a republican form of government
is that the people do not get to make all the decisions of
government since no one has time to keep informed on all
the issues facing the government and hold a job beside. So
we elect representative to do that job for us.
The United States has a republican form of government. The
House of Representatives is elected by the people and so is the
Senate. Originally the Senate was intended to represent the
interests of State governments and senators were appointed
by state governments (usually the legislative branch). The
17th amendment changed that, unfortunately.
