I swear, I struggle more with medium than expert. There's apparently some medium level technique I'm just not familiar with or something. :D

I usually do mediums pretty well. This one is giving me trouble.

But so far no technique other than crosshatch, pairs, virtual crosshatch and intersections.

Oh, and one hidden pair.

Mistake. That wasn't a hidden pair and possibly the mistake I made first time around.

I tell you what, I love the saved checkpoint feature for stuff like that :D

That seems to have been the key -- the rest just kinda fell into place there. Nifty.

I see what might be a unique rectangle. But it has one corner with 4 greens and one with 3. I'm afraid to try to exploit it until I can understand it.

Done! Really tough for a medium. I had to use greenies. Only one guess but not super easy even after that.

The one I saw, once the greens were cleaned pretty thoroughly with crosshatching and such, was very much a simple type 1 unique rectangle as described on brainbashers.com

I have to admit, as mediums usually hit me, today didn't feel as hard as some recent mediums, but I definitely was using greens.

I've had a breakout, but without a unique rectangle.

Most of the time, when people say they found a unique rectangle, I usually don't but still make it okay -- it seems like most of the time, they're just a speed technique if you happen to see one. That was my case, as it solved the whole thing for me just about after that.

I'm seeing a remote pair, first one I've ever found.

I feel like I'm still learning that strategy - I'm still learning half of 'em though :D

Now I'm within an inch of the top of the newbies. Moving up very slowly. The ceiling of newbies raises as my score raises.

I've noticed if I don't at least do five points worth of puzzle, there's little progress. :D

Rather, 5 points a day -- I'm about a third up thru regulars, trying to push to pro but it's slow going

I seldom do archives, so I move very slowly.

I'm poking my way chronologically backwards through archives -- done all 2007 puzzles, and almost done with Dec '06

Geez - Dec 2 and 3 were hard, and 1 is expert -- way to start out a month :D
