KnightTime, re your attempted rebuttals of tuco's claim that California is running a budget surplus: the first link you posted is 13 months old, and the second link is questionable because the debt clock totals state and local spending instead of showing just state spending.
However, tuco is way off the mark himself. He has miraculously transformed Governor Jerry Brown's January 2018 budget proposals for the next fiscal year (which begins July 2018) into a claim that California "is actually running a budget surplus" right now. It isn't. It's not even likely to achieve a surplus next year because there are so many spending increases needed over the current levels.
What is most disappointing is that you took tuco's bait and argued the spurious California budget surplus issue rather than responding to his baseless vitriolic diatribe about Fox News.

TallMike - Thanks for the rebuke. You took my bait and argued that my argument was misdirected rather than responding to my last comment which did respond to his baseless vitriolic diatribe about Fox News.

Surely by now we have learned that facts people put forth in these discussions are only meaningful if they support a presupposed narrative. If they don't then they are, to quote Tuco, "lies and propaganda" or, to quote Trump, "fake news." I have gotten more enlightenment from an unlit match than the seemingly endless flow of dreck (including my own) put forth in this forum.

I agree with KnightTime, most Americans have respect for the world, and understand we have probs. That allows for open debate on how to solve them . In many countries people are not afforded this option, presenting your opinion will land you in prison or worse.

KT, do you REALLY believe that the "vast majority" of Americans are wealthy? Where on earth do you live? Surely not in my neck of the woods . . . And if that's true, why are we at the bottom of the heap of wealthier countries' healthcare?

Pinhead and KT - way too many Americans don't know about the rest of the world to like them or hate them. If they did, they'd support, for example, gun control and universal health (great successes in the rest of the world). It's also untrue that many other countries don't enjoy our basic freedoms - a huge number do. We Americans live in an "America is best" cocoon. It's sad.

My clock mentor who is a RWNJ like some of these here said this weekend that ALL the news agencies except FOX are Fake News. I guess if everyone around you is saying one thing and you are the only person saying the opposite. You must be right. Genius.

Diane, I do not have the Americas best attitude. I actually feel they are just lines on a map. I currently live in a country where one can not speak negatively about the people in charge or you will go to jail for a long time. Polls have shown that the majority of Americans do favor some form of gun control, the paid off politicians do not.

TallMike, I was not baiting. I was putting forth an argument that California is far from bankrupt which is the story Fox News is pushing. Trying to make the point that Fox News is not News. It is 90% opinion skewed far Right and the 10% that is actual news is also full of bias and opinion.

MrO, in 2007 the New York Times reported "At least one researcher, Wieslaw Maslowski of the Naval Postgraduate School in Monterey, Calif., projects a blue Arctic Ocean in summers by 2013."

pinhead, you are correct that polls show Americans favor gun control in the abstract. However, when asked about particular gun control proposals you get very different results.

MrO, regardless of the state of the ice in the arctic, there is nothing we can do about it. We didn't cause it and we cannot "fix" it. The level of CO2 in the atmosphere has very little control over the temperature of the planet. Thing like clouds are much more significant. Cloud formation is influenced by cosmic rays which in turn are influenced by the Sun's magnetic field and solar wind activity. I don't think we have any power to control those factors.

tuco, it seems you don't watch Fox News much. Their recent reporting on California has focused exclusively on some of the more tragic consequences of its sanctuary state and sanctuary city policies and the related obstruction of federal immigration law enforcement efforts. No mention of bankruptcy that I recall, except perhaps moral bankruptcy.

KnightTime, your ad hoc mastery of Latin will surely rescue the sudoku board from the current trend towards aqua vitae induced lunacy. Perhaps Phil can help us with a dose of aurora australis. But remember that on this board, as in Arkansas, regnat populus (at least until Dr God intervenes).
