Hi gman. I'm catching up too.

Ok I know some of us live in different realities but someone please explain to me how calling for Russia to be let back in the G8 is not a blatant admittance that someone is doing Putin's bidding?
10:26 am
drwho
Trump won, Hillary lost. Get over it.
10:34 am
tuco
That is not an answer. If Hillary had won and she had done this would you have said Hillary won, Trump lost, get over it? I doubt it. This is treason. He is acting for the benefit of a foreign power to the detriment of the U.S. If you can't see that........
10:34 am
drwho
I'm just telling you my reality
10:35 am
drwho
Yup, he's doing Putin's bidding...like selling arms to Ukraine.
10:35 am
drwho
Or bombing Syria
10:37 am
drwho
In your reality, Trump is not the legitimate President. Hillary should have won and you just can't get your head around the fact that we elected Trump.
10:37 am
tuco
I think you are trolling. Actually. I see you more of a patriot than a partisan. I also see you as someone who likes to tweak "libs" but doing it in this case is dangerous. When he bombed syria he called putin to get his troops out of danger. The weapons sale is nothing to crow about. We sell weapons to everyone.
10:39 am
tuco
That is NOT my reality. In my reality we have a guy who has lied over 6 times a day since he has been in office. His campaign team has 4 guilty pleas and how many indictments. He is attacking the free press. He is acting like a tinpot dictator who he cozies up to. He has gutted environmental regulations. When Mueller comes out with his report, your reality will be based on Hannitys lies about the Deep State.
10:39 am
drwho
So? Putin was backing Assad, Trump bombed Assad.
10:40 am

Free press? That's a laugh.

Of all the indictments Mueller has gotten only some Russian companies were charged with anything to do with interfering with the election. At least one of those companies showed up in court and when they did Mueller wasn't ready with his case and asked for a continuance (he didn't get it). Another company is claiming they did not even exist when they were supposed to have committed the crime they are charged with. The FBI agent who interviewed General Flynn (Peter Strzok) believed he told the truth. It seems Mueller was threatening to prosecute Flynn's son for something unrelated to his Russian collusion probe.
Is this how justice is supposed to work?

Drumpf has decided that concerns over the harm that asbestos does is all a plot by the mafia, so the EPA will no longer investigate the effects of asbestos. 58% of the world's asbestos is produced by Russia. 15,000 Americans die from exposure to asbestos per year.
10:50 pm
drwho
If only there was as much concern for the 600,000 babies aborted each year.
11:04 pm
tuco
No one will change their mind. If it turns out that Trump obstructed justice laundered money worked with Russia etc then the majority of those who support him now will blame it all on Hillary. If it turns out that this actually is a plot by the Deep State and liberals who can't accept they lost then the majority of people like me will probably continue to fight for medicare for all, higher taxes on the 1%, rebuilding the EPA, saner gun laws, etc...

I hope you're wrong. It would be nice to live in a world were people actually wanted to know the truth.

drwho it is possible to be concerned about abortion AND other issues.
11:06 pm

the good dr was changing the subject.
11:07 pm

Not that you shouldn't continue to support the policies you believe are right, just that the issue about Trump and the deep state should be resolved eventually.

Abortion has been the rights go to wedge issue since Bob Jones U. had their tax exempt status taken away. It was only a Catholic issue before that. The right wing back then believed that it was not the governments place to tell a woman what she could do with her body. Times change.
11:10 pm
drwho
Social conservatives have been campaigning to reverse Roe vs. Wade ever since SCOTUS stuck its nose in where it didn't belong.
11:11 pm

hm, what year did BJ U lose their tax exempt status? I was in a protestant church in the 70's and they were opposed to abortion. Just saying.

Just being a fact checker....

Liberals want to murder babies. They are for abortion on demand. etc. Yet it is liberals who have to restore family planning and sex education funds that brings down the number of abortions.

Yes, the good news is that abortion rates have been declining. But it is doubtful that government funding of any of these programs is the reason.

Today, evangelicals make up the backbone of the pro-life movement, but it hasn’t always been so. Both before and for several years after Roe, evangelicals were overwhelmingly indifferent to the subject, which they considered a “Catholic issue.” In 1968, for instance, a symposium sponsored by the Christian Medical Society and Christianity Today, the flagship magazine of evangelicalism, refused to characterize abortion as sinful, citing “individual health, family welfare, and social responsibility” as justifications for ending a pregnancy. In 1971, delegates to the Southern Baptist Convention in St. Louis, Missouri, passed a resolution encouraging “Southern Baptists to work for legislation that will allow the possibility of abortion under such conditions as rape, incest, clear evidence of severe fetal deformity, and carefully ascertained evidence of the likelihood of damage to the emotional, mental, and physical health of the mother.” The convention, hardly a redoubt of liberal values, reaffirmed that position in 1974, one year after Roe, and again in 1976. From that article

I i am a pro life liberal. Lots of untrue generalities heading around this chat log

Tuco, that is just plain wrong! It was never just a Catholic issue.
11:14 pm

It is not doubtul drwho the evidence is clear when Republicans cut funding abortions go up. When dems reinstate it abortions go down.
11:15 pm

It has been that way for almost 40 years now.
11:15 pm

No, abortions have been going up since we stopped teaching abstinence.

It was considered a "Catholic issue" by the evangelical community back then. Read the article.

I was there. I don't need to read it. I suspect the person writing the article is younger than I.
11:18 pm

I was there too. I am 62 and it pretty much jibes with my recollection. I was raised a Catholic.
11:18 pm
tuco
States that teach abstinence only have the highest rates of teen pregnancy in the country.
11:19 pm
tuco
And those states have pretty much outlawed abortion through different laws that make it harder to open a clinic or perform the procedure.
11:19 pm
drwho
Tuco, I was raised a Baptist and it was a moral issue for us.
11:21 pm
tuco
Fine, but you are not the whole Evangelical or Southern Baptist community. If not mistaken you are up in the Minnesota drWho, the article is a valid document. Read it. Judging history by your own personal experience is narrow mindedness.
11:22 pm
drwho
Remember Jerry Falwell and the moral majority. That was one of the driving issues behind the movement.
11:25 pm
tuco
They grabbed onto the issue. Yes they took the issue and used it as a wedge issue to gain political clout and power and to retain their tax exempt status.
It had very little to do with Faith or righteousness.
11:25 pm
drwho
My you're cynical. And how do you know what motivated Jerry Falwell and the Moral Majority?
11:26 pm
tuco
Watching his life over the last 30 years before his death. Seeing what he stood for. Seeing the hypocricy now of the religious right's support for Trump.
11:28 pm
drwho
I suspect you know virtually nothing about Jerry Falwell and the Moral Majority. You think you do only because you have read the mainstream media's hit pieces on him and the movement.
11:29 pm
tuco
okay, you got me drwho. He was a Mandela like figure who preached tolerance and forgiveness. I just want to tear him down. That's what we liberals do.
11:31 pm
tuco
As I said, I watched him and his ilk from 1980 to now and I have listened to their hypocrisy over and over and over. I don't need hit pieces. All you have to do is watch them speak on YouTube or read their writings. It is right there.
11:34 pm

Unlike Mandela, Falwell believed in all 10 of the 10 commandments (especially the 7th).
