I would like to express my sorrow that recent chat exchanges on controversial issues became highly emotionally charged, and that people suffered emotional distress. However, I am not at all surprised that this happened because controversy begets response(s), and tempers often flare.

As a LIBERTARIAN, I encourage you all, before you post something controversial, to seriously consider whether your right to free speech in chat is MORE IMPORTANT than any Iron Sudoku player's right to not be subjected to someone's personal opinion on any controversial matter not associated with Sudoku.

I agree with JudyHall. We are entitled to our own opinions, but there is a time and a place. This place is one where many of us go to get away from the politics and controversies, to take a breather from stress. We all love puzzles. Focusing on that.

Wait: We have a right to not be subjected to other people's opinions? When did that happen?

Helenkeller, no I was not getting at you. I was getting at the way some previous views have been expressed on this chat.

Dr God wrote that: Iron Sudoku is a friendly community of Sudoku enthusiasts.
May I suggest that some comments recently were decidedly unfriendly. My recent comments are intended as supportive. If you find them to be too controversial then I suggest you skip over and do not read anything I post. This is not a controversy that I started but I will speak up in defense of those who are being treated meanly.

Again, those of you 'head in the sand' types. If you can't stand the heat, stay out of the fire. No one is forcing you to read these posts. TG-PTSD is not an 'opinion' (personal, or otherwise) & I will NEVER tolerate, or let slide any type of bash on that. Amazing, I am able to do both - puzzle & chat, if you can't then close this box.

Excuse me for attempting to express concern for your TG-PTSD, helenkeller, by my previous reference to those folks who had experienced emotional distress during the last few days of chat; obviously I was guilty of not making myself very clear. However ineffectual I might have been, I don't think I deserved to be attacked by you. N.B. Even though I am not 100% certain to whom helenkeller was actually speaking when she referenced "'head in the sand' types", I am responding negatively to it because I have perceived it as an attack against me. CONCLUSION: Can we agree that this is a good example of how serious miscommunications can occur?

And if I could keep the chat box closed, I would do so. Yes, I can open the "Who's Online" or "My Friends" tabs, but that choice does not remain active when I start another puzzle from the archive; by default the "Chatterbox" tab always opens when a new puzzle starts. And amazingly, I tend to read it, sadly BEFORE I remember to re-click on the "Who's Online" tab or before I remember to modify the window size so that the chat log isn't visible.

And, as things aren't going well right now in my caregiving journey, and since I don't personally know any of you folks, instead of attempting to instill some common courtesy into chat, I'm raring for a fight. Much easier to take my frustrations out on people I don't know ...

Is there a way to see older chat logs?
