Good news indeed, Tall Mike! Glad to know your weight is down and you are feeling better. I would also venture to say that working Sudoku puzzles does not contribute to weight loss. Be well, and hope to see you around the campus one of these days!

TallMike I have been taking the same dietary approach for a couple of years now. As well as shedding 45lbs or so, the change of diet has banished my arthritis, gout, migraines, high cholesterol, high blood pressure, high blood sugar/pre-diabetes, and improved my mental health as my attitude is now always positive. Plus, I am brimming with energy all the time! It's amazing.

TallMike - which 2 books did you read? My go to books are both by Dr Jason Fung - The Obesity Code, and The Complete Guide to Fasting

The 5 2 diet by Michael Mosley is a great one. I personally lost 14kg in 7 weeks by juicing for breakfast, tin of tuna and salad for lunch and normal evening meal, but little in the way of bread. Fat Sick and Nearly Dead doco got me onto the benefits of juicing.

I fast walk 2 miles each day, lift low weight, high reps 3 times a week, and do stretch exercises each evening. Walking is great for mental and physical health. Also use the keto diet - ultra low carb, ultra low sugar - medium protein - high fat.

on the fat component- look for high monounsaturated content, e.g. avocado, nuts, olive oil. Eat fruits like raspberries, plums, tomatoes, lemons, strawberries, blackberries, all nutrient dense with low sugar and low carbs. Those are my dessert and snack foods.

there are numerous web sites that list the range of fruits, vegetables, fats, meats, etc that work well with keto. Very easy diet to acclimate to - no calorie counting. Mixed with light exercise like walking helps maintain acceptable weight and fitness - at least in my experience. May not be for everyone and certainly check with doctor if you have serious medical issues.

eyeman, actually there is some likelihood that working sudoku puzzles would help some people either lose weight or reduce their weight gain. This would apply to people who are experiencing long-term mental stress and who play sudoku enough to reduce that constant stress. The mechanism involves the hormone cortisol. There is a detailed explanation in chapter 8 of Dr Jason Fung's book The Obesity Code. While Dr Fung does not specifically name sudoku as a remedy for extra pounds caused by stress-induced elevated cortisol levels, he does mention other stress relievers such as yoga, meditation, exercise, etc.

digondda, your go-to books are the same as mine.
I am impressed with the long list of benefits you have experienced from Dr Fung's teachings. Very encouraging. Thank you so much for that.

digonnda, I think The Obesity Code is an especially remarkable book because of its inclusion of a detailed history of dieting, showing that even the most trusted of sources have repeatedly promoted diet plans which were either untested or, worse, known to have already been refuted by sound scientific research. It's a superb example of how science can be derailed for many decades by well intentioned non-scientists who believe that what they "know" to be true matters more than what scientific studies reveal.
