HK, theres no reason why you would be excluded from doing so, academic purposes would be exempt and your research would be included in that. It has to be kept from the right wing and other extremists though. They use it to recruit terrorists and it has to be stopped.

Technology evolves much faster than societies. If society evolved as fast as technology then there would be no racism or religions.

tuco - Real change takes a long time. I do not follow your leap in logic from fast societal evolution to no religions. Not all religions are guilt/greed/aggression based.

technology evolves on proven scientific or mechanical experimentation. Religion is faith based on an unprovable belief. It is a shared myth with no scientific or factual basis. It is a way of controlling its followers.

tuco - You do not include, in your argument, that now, more so than ever, people change religions, or totally drop out of religions. That is happening. People are thinking more for themselves & opting out of being controlled. It's taking longer, but it is true change. And what about Buddhists?

I am not saying it isn't getting better. I am just saying it takes a lot longer than technology. Religion and racism are two of the anchors holding us back as a society. I will give the Pope some props lately though.

tuco - We agree on that for the most part. And yes, good Pope. Being somewhat of a doom & gloom person, I see it's getting better in many areas, but in other areas also much worse. I feel as if humanity has to sh*t or get off the pot fairly soon. An alien invasion just may be what it takes to bring us all together. :)

heh helen. I don't think an "alien invasion" will help at all. It isn't helping right now. According to Hair Furor the aliens are invading or southern border and we are just as divided as ever. :P

I'm way behind here. Wife and kids bought me an Oculus Rift for Xmas. I have been putting in my spare hours learning to fly a P51-D WWII fighter plane in Virtual Reality. Having a great time too.

I think aliens would avoid us. They would have had to have solved a lot of problems scientific and societal to be able to make the kind of voyage it would take to get here. Why would they want to expose themselves to all the anti-vaccinated, disease ridden humanoids that inhabit this planet?

They would be able to find and travel to some where a lot more benign and safe.

Or they are just waiting until we destroy ourselves and then land and take over. It may have happened that way before??? :-)

HK-Evolving how? Getting smarter - sure. Getting "better" I don't think so. War, murder, etc have always been a part of human existence. I really see no scenario where that changes.

And it is obvious to me that this puzzle will require more brains and skills than I currently possess. :(
