So first round of EU parlement voting finished. The UK has no exit polls (yet) in the Netherlands compared to 5 years ago populist far right stayed the same size but most votes went to the new party, socialists got smaller, and the middle parties got bigger. Big winner are the social democrates which we consider to be center left in the EU, although in US terms they would be considered far left. There is some hope that SD will become the largest fraction in the EU, as support for Christian Democrats is somewhat declining in Europe. But we will see.

I like the chats, but am always saddened by ignorance sometimes demonstrated. I fear for the US.

Interesting result MrO. Good the extremists are not growing. It was getting a bit unpleasant for awhile.

I thought it would be a pleasant change to agree not to talk politics as suggested KT, wouldn't have mattered who suggested it. I have friends who are quite conservative, always good to hear opposite sides of a debate. No point just listening to everyone who agrees with your own views otherwise where's the exchange of ideas?

I enjoy a good discussion on any topic, as long as it is informative and respectful. When it boils down to "I'm right and anyone who disagrees with me is either stupid or evil" (coming from both sides), there isn't much point.

We also used to have many light-hearted, humorous exchanges that would brighten my day.
