HK, sad to hear your story, and I think that is one of the messages that comes from the video. Kids should not have to deal with this, their mental health is so important. Adults too should not have to live this way. It's just so wrong. But many many more times so for the children. How can anyone justify this is acceptable for the right not to have background checks and no assault rifles etc. It's just so sad.

Our thoughts go out to the families of victims murdered by their own government in Tiananmen Square 30 years ago. And they still think it was the right thing to do.

Economic stability is of course highly desirable, but take your people along on the journey willingly, not with the threat of death.

background checks and an assault rifle ban would not have stopped the senseless killing in Virginia Beach. The killer used .45 caliber handguns and purchased them legally including a background check. Learn the facts before suggesting a solution.

Also do not blame this on the "right" exclusively in America. The "left" runs Chicago and there were 53 shootings - 10 resulting in death on the same weekend that the Virginia Beach shooting occurred. Chicago has extremely strict gun laws - so the law is not the problem. It is run by Democrats so the "right" is not the problem.

KT - The problem in Chicago is only partly gun-law related. Illegal guns come here from all over, but mostly Indiana. Do not use Chicago as an example for gun laws. It all goes back to what I was talking about - children who grow up too fast. The problem here in Chicago is mostly gang related. If you took out the gang related gun deaths, we would be pretty low on the list. As it is, kids grow up in poor areas, usually from single parent homes. Moms work, no one watches the kids, they find their "new family" in gangs. There are those gangs which require for their initiation that the newbie kill a rival gang member. Part of this problem can be solved by teaching kids to shoot, like they teach in the armed forces. That would help eliminate so many of the 'innocent bystander' deaths. These kids can't shoot properly, teach them how, let them take each other out. Once they're in a gang, they're mostly beyond help. Of course, they can always get out of a gang by going to jail, where they just end up in a new gang.

Also, research has shown that PTSD - prolonged deprivation &/or stress - creates genetic changes. These are then passed down to the next generation. Constellation of depression, anxiety, hyper-sensitivity, hyper-vigilance. This ought to terrify people.

bugs - I really feel for your friend. Yes, one would think their child would be their great hope for the future & take excellent care of them. My parents did. I know I am very fortunate. My parents began every telling of one of their experiences with this intro: You have to know that at any time, anyone, can take everything away from you. They can take your toys, your books, your clothes, your food, your school, they can even take away your home, they can take away us, your parents, they can take away your country. This is what happened with them. They always ended that with: The only thing people can't take away from you is what you have in your brain. My 'job' in life was being an excellent student. I probably first heard that when I was 3 years old. As the years went by they shared progressively more horrific experiences. Man's inhumanity to man, truly beyond belief.
