Those figures wouldn't surprise me as it takes 6 to 8 weeks to recover from the virus and only a few will need hospitalisation. However, they are now finding that there can be significant lung damage even in those with no symptoms following a CT scan. So even if you think you're over it, you may well have significant g=damage done and long term problems are highly likely. This is not something you want to get.

So Phil, did you get that hard puzzle from a couple days ago? I just did it, and you were right, it was tricky.

RandLS and KT, how interesting and confusing! We have federal laws and state laws, but most offences are dealt with by state police who handle traffic and everything from disorderly behaviour to homicide. Federal police mainly only deal with policing at airports and cross state offending, so are much smaller. Plus they deal with the Australian Capital Territory, a bit like Washington DC, pretty much occupied by Canberra the nations capital where the federal parliament sits. There is also Border Force (immigration), but the vast majority of policing is the state police. There are no local police. Why would you need them? Surely if you assault someone in a bar it's the same police officer that would turn up. Then if they do a runner and drive off 300km into the hills, why wouldn't the same officer deal with him there.

It's interesting seeing the comparisons between Aus, England where I grew up and the US. All democracies but quite different. One thing we did in the cover crisis was set up a national cabinet of the state leaders who met twice a week, virtually of course. Despite them being some labour and some liberal (conservative in Aus), they worked together for the good of the country. It was so successful they are now meeting monthly to tackle other major projects, such as how to better prepare for the increase in bushfires since global warming is already here. They also worked closely with the federal government who despite being liberal actually put huge effort and money with employers to keep people employed and to fight the virus. It was always going to be damaging to the economy as well as health, but nobody would pay for testing or treatment. They all took the advice of the health experts who kept us all informed and we all listened to what was asked of us for the good of all.

As a result, the public now has a higher regard for our pollies who normally sit just above used car salesmen in trust rankings. Now, interestingly there is a chance they may start to have bipartisan negotiations on the national energy strategy going forward. Next they might tackle the environment together. Then we would all happily pay them more money for actually doing the job of running the country rather than just trying score political points off each other.

Phil - sounds nice (re your politicians). I wish that could happen here, but it seems highly unlikely. Our two main parties are almost diametrically opposed to each other and even when they DO agree they apparently have to continue to oppose each other, else suffer the wrath of their most vocal constituents. It's ridiculous.

Case in point - if you're a Democrat and don't literally despise Trump, you're obviously a racist turncoat that supports putting children in cages. You can't just not like him...he has to cause you literal nausea.
The Republican side isn't QUITE that bad, but it's darn close. If you agree with any Democrat on any point, you are heavily chastised until you quiet down again.

And really, the only thing they differ on is where they want to waste trillions of borrowed dollars every year. :P

To be honest our pollies are normally like that too, but at least in the face of a common goal, they put it aside and work together. Just wish from now on they would keep it up. We will see. I think what helps with us is we only have to endure 6 weeks of campaigning. Your lot seem to spend their entire time in the job campaigning. Not very productive. And its all about money. Just make it law they have a fixed budget and 6 weeks before the election. That'll save the country billions of dollars a year.
