MrOoijer my memory fails, I thought I saw spargle or spargel in markets and restaurants in Delft, but that would have been 5 years ago. Id love to go back, I had a great time. I was there for a conference in Leiden but we stayed before in Delft and after in Amsterdam.

...and it was in prime season for it: thick white, purple and green stalks were everywhere.

@spellacked probably then they had some signs in German for the German tourists - although I would expect that on the coast or in Amsterdam, not in Delft. I live in a village very close to Leiden, and that asparagus farm is - 10 km east of Leiden. It is in a wet area with many little lakes and creeks, not the place you would expect to find an asparagus farm because they are usually grown on sand grounds, not in the heavy clay here. But their product is superb.Today I cooked the asperges, combined with a hollandaise sauce , poached salmon with little grey North Sea shrimps. Had some friends over who requested this recipy. We all agreed they were the best asperges we had this season.
