i always have those ... ;) actually a lot of the reason i'm slow is that i recheck every move obsessively because i hate it when i've made a mistake and have to start over

the great thing about that mental block is that it doesn't tend to bother me between about 8:30 PM and 8:30 AM

I start and then someone sneaks out of bed and I lose my place. My 10 year old would stay up to 11:00 reading if you don't intervene.

He hides books under his matress. We used reverse psychology on him to instill his passion for reading..;-)

i have been playing sudoku on and off for a while and understand the rules..but does anyone have any insights or clues for the hard ones

i just can't seem to get the hang of starting out

what i do, and i'm no expert Just, i fill it up as much as i can then pick a situation where only 2 possibilities exist - i pick one (after saving a checkpoint) and see where that leads me - when it leads to a bottleneck, then I KNOW that the reverse of my original pick is TRUE - that's, in a nutshell, my primary approach....

thank you. my problem with that is, I'm not pro so I can't save checkpoints. One false move and I have to start over!

am not a pro either - i write down the numbers that would be saved in a checkpoint and note the 2 possibilities and the one i picked...

i looked back through the log and i see someone finished in 2 minutes. i think, geez, what secret am i missing?

duh! montreal, that's a good idea that i could not think of on my own!

apparently there are "tricks", known techniques that i'm not aware of... i just use my regular horse sense...

tonite's took me 20 minutes or so...

i was talking to my friend this evening who was here at the flip and he said he gave up

that made me want to try it...and i've been staring at the grid for 15 minutes and only entered a few numbers!

i know that i completed the bottom right corner... save for 2 boxes - that is where i picked one of 2 number possibilities...

and all you had to say was that corner...and i found a simple entry!

oh... one more thing: many players refer to "greens" - i believe there is a software that you can run and it will fill the empty boxes in the sudoku grid with all the possible values for each box with little green numbers... - i never use them and i don't know which software and how to get it but you could ask when the chatroom is busier... - i don't use "greens", trying to solve the board without... and i succeed most of the time...g'nite again anf best of luck !!!
