i think the "problem" is that this game was created by the same man who created another game called Babble.
a lot of the Babble players are on the chatlog here, trying out this game.
over on the Babbler chatlog, we have coded ways of giving clues, which is perfectly acceptable over there. they just sort of carry the same mentality over here, forgetting that its not necessarily the same pool of people playing as on Babble.

I'm talking about my work though not giving any clues on the game... i couldnt even if i want to coz i cant see the table anymore coz i've done it

Nope, no guessing. There was one logical deduction to make, that took me about 10 minutes to find (once I got deadlocked and had my little green numbers everywhere). After that, the board was done in 2 minutes.

error just means you have a repeat

the error warning only shows when there is a conflict, not when a number is placed in the wrong square.

Jin, if you haven't saved at all then go to archives or one of the other options and that will clear the screen back to the start.

thuryn: you need to find those pairs so that it reduces the number of blank squares on the 3x3 grid

or at least that's how I got through it... took me ages though :(

well, and 'close enough' logic is still useful. e.g. if i know a 7 is in a given column in a 3x3, that's good enough to use it to reduce possibilites in two other squares

but it isn't helping

basically how i got through it was to find out a pair of numbers that would occupy specific two squares on the 3x3 grid, so that takes those squares out of contention

ah yes. i've done that before. lessee now...

after that I had three possible numbers left and by looking at the adjacent 3x3 area I could figure it out...

I got my seven by accident - I was trying to mark the possibility for a 2 and forgot to hold down the shift button. The only one left was the seven.

I went through every square and marked all possibilities.....and then it took a long time to grind my way down to getting a 7

done at last. :-)

Obvious... but easy to not notice when you've whittled possiblities down to that level.

yeah, i can't believe i didn't realize it sooner

so if you have 3 squares remaining in a box marked in green with (2,7), (2,7), and (2,5,7,8) then you can pull off the 2 and 7 from the last square

it doesn't always yield a final number right away, but it certainly helps the process of elimination

A good way is to use only green but only put them in a box if the number can only go in 2 squares. That way you can see if the number controls a line or if 2 different numbers control 2 squares (no other number can go in those two squares) etc.

Someone posted a hint earlier about when you have two spaces in a row, column, or group that can be only two numbers. Then, nothing else in that row, column, or group (respectively) can be those two numbers. That led me to getting the 6th number in a column, which gave me the 7 by default. Walk in the park from there ..

That's only my list of things to fix. It happens when someone hits the Enter key more than once before the message can be sent. It effectively sends it each time you hit Enter.

this is definitely a tricky one.. but you can solve it without 'guessing'..

i find that using the pencil marks helps with this puzzle... and i think Dr_God's medium puzzles are actually 'diabolical'

hurshy: wouldn't surprise me if it was because websudoku.com's puzzles are *great* for printing out. So people complete them printed, then type them back in for verification.

I wrote a program to solve sudoko, guessing and back tracking is actually very efficient for it. And the 8's are not heloping either

Alternately, most of their medium puzzles are pretty easy. :-P

and they hit pause while they solve them on paper, perhaps?

the technique that really helped me out here was marking possibilities -- if a box only has 3 open spaces, and two of them has to be 1 or 2, then the third one has to be 3

but they are easier to solve w/o paper here because of the red and green numbers

hold down shift when you select and number and it will be small and green. hold down alt and it wil be red, indicating you know it isn't that.

You must enter them yourself. In the "how to play" page, it explains how one can open the popup, then shift-click on a number to add a little green "potential number", or alt-click on a number to add a little red "definitely not this number".

i just realized two things. there is nothing to stop anyone from using the green to mean you know it's not that, and the red to mean it might be that. and this feature would be a bummer if you were red-green colorblind.

you may have to try some things at some point, but most of the time you can narrow things down given what you see at the time

ya, i guess i did not make it very clear

the first time i showed my dad, he was quite confused and thought you should guess between the possible numbers .. he didn't see the point
