Well, for me, those easies were realy easy, but Hidden pairs and triples are my achilles heel :(

figured out where there were pairs (or triples) that meant something about other squares - once I got going things started to fall into place pretty rapidly

i found all my naked pairs and all the obvious numbers and also did, i dont know what it's called, but you look to see if a number occurs in only one row or column of a box and eliminate the other of those numbers in the other boxes. do you know what that's called? but now i'm stuck.

Wow...I'm trying to do the 3/28 expert puzzle and I keep hitting the same wall in different ways: one possible number in two boxes in the same row/column, but it's always a different number in a different location each time I retry it

And I'm just doing relatively basic strategies, not the advanced ones...crazy.

Perry, I had a similar problem. I had to be very carful with my subscripts then I just hit a wall.

that one was a pig, Perry. I would pick it up every now and then and fail. Then yesterday I thought I'd give it one more go before admitting defeat and got it. Fluke though

I eventually had to guess a few times until I got through

I would start at a checkpoint that I was comfortable with, choose a spot that had ony two possibilities and guess one

ive been doing that with this one, and yet its not working

I've restarted it about 4 times today, always starting it different ways, and keep hitting things like two boxes that only have a 9 possible in the same column, or two with only a 5 possible in the same row.

If I hit a contradiction, like the ones you mention, I go back to the check point and choose the other one ass correct

ive done that, and hit contradictions

The important thig is to be clear that your last checkpoint was correct and that you remember your guess. That way you can eliminate wrong guesses when you hit contradictions

Ugh, 3/28 is going back into the archives for another day....

i swear i have, i take screen shots right b4 the guess and right when i get the contradiction, and i have them going both routes

You will get it eventually. I restarted that one a few times until I hit upon a strategy that worked

That sounds like you made a mistake at some point. Sometimes I see eliminations that aren't really there, if I miss apply one of the techniques.

I'm a few points away from the leaders on the village elders, but I've caught up with the elders on the cream of the crop list

glad to know there is a group of us struggling

I think 3/28 was the hardest to solve. I just got to the point that I couldn't see any more eliminations

I finally finised it yesterday after numerous attempts. I finally figured out how to use guessing effectively

Not to bash Dr. G., but a scoring system that penalizes you for doing all the puzzles has a problem Zem. Basically, then, it's designed to keep people from coming to the site every day.

Or, I should say, from staying and doing the puzzles after they come to see the difficulty level.

I think that might just be an issue since it is still starting out. Eventually, the number of puzzles completed will out weigh the average. Then finishing all or nearly all the puzzles will be necessary

Well the highest score you can get after playing only on game is 501. That's if you only do one expert.

but you can get that from other sites stef..half the attraction for me is the chat that goes on while I'm here...

The chat stays the same whether you are playing from the archive or that day's puzzle, so that shouldn't matter too much.

Eventually, there will be 401 easy puzzles in the archives, then completing every one of those will give you the same score

I finish the easy ones quickly and am frustrated that there isn't more of a challenge on those days

The only reason I could see to do it on purpose would be to reduce the number of players, say to lighten the server load, but seeing how busy Babble is I don't think that's the case. And if you're selling a product, then the last thing you want is to discourage players. So I'd say it's not intended.

I reckon we should lobby for one puzzle of each difficulty level per day. We're paying for it after all! That way everyone gets what they want, including those obsessed with their scores.

Obiously, everybody with 120 points places a high priority on completeness, not on the average scores

oh well new here and didn't read the help I just dove right in

With the flip, LdyVxn, hold down your shift key and click a number.. it lets you fill in the numbers you think are or aren't the possible solution

ldyvxn - if you hold down the shift key while picking a number it will put it in the box in green, and still allow you to enter more numbers. that way you can put in all the possibilites. if you use "alt" it puts the numbers in in red

Makes it a LOT easier if you have the time to fill it in
