starting off doesn't seem so bad, but I'm sure it gets a little sticky?
6:47 am
Andy
It does, but you keep retreading the same ground and each time something new comes loose.

I am new here and I don't understand going green? Is there a formula to do these or is there a lot of guessing?

Marc
Where did everyone go? I have to leave now?

hey marc, if you check this later - "going green" means placing hints. if you hold down the shift key while clicking a number, it will put a little green number in the box, and you can put as many green numbers in the box as you need to

katmama
i think, if you press the control key (maybe?) while hitting a number, it puts a red number there. the significance between greens and reds are whatever you make it :) and welcome to ironsudoku!

wow, this one gave me much more trouble than it should have. I used greens, guesses... then I finallly found a hidden pair I'd missed and it fell through

For Marc: It shouldn't be guesswork most of the time, but this is a tough one (by some analyses).
6:42 pm

Start by finding where something MUST go: See where 1's appear and see if you can force a 1 into a particular square, because it can't be in the other rows and columns because of other 1's and the other fixed numbers in the box.

Then, look the other way 'round: look at the rows columns and squares where only a few are left (I stay under 5 empties). See if there's a cell that only has one possibility.

Hi Katmama, I have been a member of ironsudoku for quite a while. I knew what it meant by going greens but I didn't know the trick of adding reds. Thanks for the information. I was just wondering who would be so kind as the first one not to spare the trouble of explaining to Marc about "going greens". You surely are a helpful person.

After that, it gets slower, especially if you can't keep things like "3 and 6 were the only options in the fifth and eight cells, so that means the others are 2, 5 and 8" in your head. Start marking all the possible places with "green" in each cell by clicking then holding the shift key. That may point out things you missed. After that, search sudoku strategies on the web.

how sad to load ironsudoku and realize you already did today's puzzle. sigh.
