Mark, Andy, btwrt... a little late, but the script for auto greens and reds is at brittlefish.com/2007/03/14/ironsudoku-ie6-aut

auto greens and reds???? Is that how some people can solve these puzzles in 5 minutes?
7:41 am
brittlefish.com
done. no greens (or reds :)
7:42 am
brittlefish.com
no, auto greens and reds simply fill in the possible numbers with green marks, except if there's only one or two potentials in a 3x3 grid. in that case they're red. sometimes it actually makes things take longer than if you did it manually.
7:44 am
brittlefish.com
which is one reason i also have a "clearnotes" script that erases all the greens and reds. :)
7:45 am
tuco
yeah but that still eliminates part of the human element of finding those possible numbers yourself.
7:46 am
tuco
I don't really care. I was just blown away at some of the solving times. Especially at the puzzles that are harder than easy.
7:46 am
tuco
I felt inadequate. hehehe
7:47 am
brittlefish.com
granted, but the human element for most people is simply rote clicking and filling the possibles. there is not much thinking involved and this simply gets the board to a point where you're thinking. oh, i know what you mean. some of these yayhoos :-) will solve an expert in five minutes with no greens at all.

brittlefish, I use your clear greens script more often than the auto fill - sometimes I need to take a fresh look even when I have manually filled in a bunch of greens. Thanks!

not too hard for a change

there's a "clear greens" script? I was hoping someone would come up with that
12:46 pm
brittlefish.com
Sure. Just change grautofil() in the script to clearnotes() and it will clear the greens and reds. There's also gautofill() for traditional auto-greens and rowhint() to get a popup with the solution to a single row. brittlefish.com/2007/03/14/ironsudoku-ie6-aut

FYI, just posted an article on creating browser bookmarklet buttons for grautofill(), gautofill(), clearnotes(), and rowhint(). brittlefish.com/2007/12/19/handy-ironsudoku-b

yeah you noticed last night i didn't know how to help that guy? i prefer to fill them in on my own since i get a better feel for the puzzle that way, so i didn't have it saved anyplace. bookmarks are a very good idea

Yeah, i've had them set up like that for ages but when i saw your msg i realized i never mentioned creating the buttons.

you can shift + click to get a small green number to keep track of possible numbers too. that helped me a bunch when I learned that one.
