Does anyone no how to create a matrix using the computer and will it work on a MAC?
10:08 pm
Mayan_Warrior
Marc, Iron Sudoku works best in mozilla Firefox... should work fine on a mac since it isn't the Microsoft Hegemony at work? A Matrix? Shift + Number gives you a small green so you can put all possibilities in a square?
10:24 pm
Marc
Mayan could you explain again
10:38 pm
Mayan_Warrior
If you press enter on a space (or left-click on the mouse), a keyboard appears and you can press shift+ a number to enter multiple little green numbers (a grid) within each space. Alt+a number enters a red number. That way you can enter greens as possibles and/or reds as not possible or whatever (hence the conqueror claims "no greens" in the chat) Make any sense?

And if the question was about Mozilla Firefox, it is a great FREE internet navigator that you can download, much like Internet Explorer but better, and I like it better than any other internet navigation program.
10:43 pm
Andy
This site works great in Safari as well. Just saying.
10:45 pm
Marc
I am on Fox
10:46 pm
Andy
Fox? Oh... FireFox... confused me there a sec :)
10:46 pm
Marc
Got it thanks
10:46 pm
Andy
When you say you want to make a matrix, what do you mean?
10:46 pm
Mayan_Warrior
Finally, I am not sure what you can or cannot do if you don't pay for preferred status on Iron Sudoku, but you pay a small amount for a lifelong memebership that allows you to relish and revel in 2 years worth of archives, save your work and do all kinds of sudoku's... best site I know! I wonder if anyone can tell you if these cool red and green things are available without paying? I'm not ashamed to say I am totally addicted to this site and find the price well worth it. I also don't think it is worth being embarrassed about using greens!
10:47 pm
Andy
You can do greens and reds for free. It's saving and archives you don't get.
10:48 pm
Mayan_Warrior
I use them all the time. I guess I could kill a few trees printing them up and writing my "matrix" in in pencil, but the greens are much more environmentally friendly!
10:48 pm
Andy
Much more... wait for it... wait for it... "green"?
10:48 pm
Andy
Thank you, I'll be here all week.Tip your waitress!
10:49 pm
Mayan_Warrior
Ha Ha... LOL
10:50 pm
Mayan_Warrior
Marc... we got lost in levity... any other questions that you would like a "brief" answer to?
10:57 pm
Marc
There is a way to put all the possible #'s in the cells at once, does anyone know how?
10:57 pm
btwrt
yeah you can find it at brittlefish.com someplace
10:58 pm
btwrt
here we go: http://www.brittlefish.com/2007/02/07/make-ir
onsudoku-javascript-magic/
10:58 pm
Andy
Simple javascript. And, yes, you can find it at brittlefish.com.
10:58 pm
Marc
thanks I will try that
10:58 pm
tttmt
you can paste a script into the url line of your browser
10:59 pm
Mayan_Warrior
Is THAT what everyone means about "no greens"??? Golly, that isn't as much fun as working it out manually!
10:59 pm
Mayan_Warrior
Maybe I'm too old-fashioned...
10:59 pm
tttmt
I find it easier to do it myself and quicker
10:59 pm
btwrt
i don't think anybody means they've used the script when they say no greens, it just means they didn't use the green numbers at all
10:59 pm
Andy
There are four ways to do the puzzles: "no greens" which means with no use of greens at all. With greens, which means manual entry. auto greens (also called auto g+r) which uses the javascript, and "I put it in a solving program and had it help me"
11:00 pm
btwrt
i try to go without greens if i can but sometimes i get impatient or stuck or just don't have the time to do it that way
11:00 pm
btwrt
there are solving programs? well dang, that's just cheating! ;)
11:00 pm
Andy
I only use auto when I am in a rush and want to get the puzzle done. I don't have a problem with it when I am not timing myself. I never use them on day-of puzzles, only on archives. And only when necessary.
11:01 pm
btwrt
yeah, i don't like to auto fill, spending the time working it out or adding greens myself makes me familiar with the puzzle
11:01 pm
Mayan_Warrior
Easy puzzles are usually solvable the "no green" way... But maybe some of these archived expert ones are worth trying the other way?
11:02 pm
btwrt
otherwise i'm looking at a sea of green and i have no clue about the relationships between any of the numbers ... it's too much to take in all at once, for me
11:02 pm
btwrt
yeah mayan, i'm actually doing yesterday's expert puzzle and i'm tired and want to get to bed, so i'm using greens (now that i'm stuck on it)
11:02 pm
Mayan_Warrior
Good point
11:02 pm
Andy
sometimes I auto g+r just to get a hint and then I use a clear script to wipe them out again
11:03 pm
btwrt
yeah it is nice that brittle made the clear script
11:04 pm
tttmt
what's the clear script?
11:05 pm
btwrt
clears out all the reds and greens for you. it should be on that page i posted the link to, a bit ago
11:06 pm
Marc
went to the site but cannot find the javascript any hints?
11:07 pm
btwrt
it wasn't on this page? http://www.brittlefish.com/2007/02/07/make-ir

you put that in the url line of your browser
11:11 pm

11:20 pm
tttmt
I think it's messy too... clutters the screen with to much green and to confusing for me
