8:16 am
Andy
Sure... give us a hard puzzle when we have only 23 hours to do it instead of 24 :)
8:23 am
Andy

8:26 am
angieplumptit
fun puzzle
8:27 am
angieplumptit
didn't even need the guardian angle
8:28 am
angieplumptit
And now, let us pray.
8:29 am
angieplumptit
Gimmee, Gimmee, Gimmee, Gimmee. Amen
8:29 am
Andy
Quite easy when you use Snorkelheimer's inversion. Of course, I have my own special modification which is known only to me.
8:30 am
Andy
Can you pray for my kidney stone to pass? I've maxed out on painkillers and am still in agony.
8:30 am
angieplumptit
Share!
8:30 am
Andy
Of course, I'm an atheist so I can't pray myself so you need to do it for me.
8:30 am
Andy
That'll work, right?
8:31 am
angieplumptit
Uh oh, time to convene the prayer group.
8:31 am
angieplumptit
OK, everyone, we're gonna pray for that kidney stone>
8:31 am
Andy
Whoever's prayers make the stone pass will get the stone in a special vial for their home altars.
8:32 am
angieplumptit
Omigawd, I'm right on it.
8:32 am
Andy
Or, better still, you can start a shrine to me (for, why wouldn't you want one?) using the stone as the central relic.
8:32 am
Andy
Hurshy's gonna hate me...
8:33 am
angieplumptit
It could bring Fang back from the dead!
8:33 am
Andy
My kidney stone has that power??
8:33 am
angieplumptit
Grow uncle Hector Doink's finger back!
8:34 am
angieplumptit
Just light a candle in front of it.
8:34 am
angieplumptit
And make a gift of love offering.
8:34 am
angieplumptit
Omigawd, do I dare ask for my Beretta?
8:35 am
Andy
Glad to be of service.
8:35 am
angieplumptit
The sermon on the mount shower curtain?
8:35 am
Andy
Sorry Hurshy!
8:36 am
Andy
In my defense, I'm out of my mind on vicodin right now...
8:36 am
angieplumptit
Saints Peter and Paul salt and pepper shakers?!
8:36 am
Andy
I have nun salt shakers around here somewhere... scary catholic school nun shakers...
8:36 am
angieplumptit
Not vicodin, the Power!
8:37 am
Andy
vicodin is the power...
8:37 am
Andy
well... it's not working so I'm not sure what's up...
8:38 am
angieplumptit
We are all praying. It will pass.. Have faith.
8:38 am
angieplumptit
And another vicodin.
8:39 am
aa
He'll have whatever it takes to make the pain go away!
8:39 am
angieplumptit
Just in case the BF is otherwise occupied.
8:39 am
angieplumptit
Saving cancer sufferers and such.
8:40 am
angieplumptit
Just can't understand why He won't raise my dog from the dead...
8:40 am
Andy
aa's next to me working on the puzzle complaining about my complaining :)
8:40 am
angieplumptit
Only a small dog.
8:40 am
Andy
Maybe he's worried about the grooming issues?
8:41 am
angieplumptit
I could easily dig him up if that would help.
8:41 am
angieplumptit
Hose him down.
8:42 am
angieplumptit
Folks, we gotta concentrate.
8:42 am
angieplumptit
Bear down.
8:42 am
bgmadden
Ok you two...I can't focus because I'm cracking up to much....
8:42 am
angieplumptit
That kidney stone is history!
8:43 am
Andy
Angie, we gotta take this act on the road... I'm gonna be in vegas in August for a conference... we could trial it there...
8:43 am
Andy
I have family in the catskills...
8:44 am
angieplumptit
OK, Ok! Let's get an eight year old girl to sing hymns.
8:44 am
spellacked
Hmm... usual a Hard has a hidden pair or something -- this fell out quite quickly with a couple of obvious pairs, once I went green at least
8:44 am
angieplumptit
White dress. Blond curls.
8:45 am
angieplumptit
And all major credit cards accepted!
8:45 am
angieplumptit
I'll be there!
8:48 am
Andy
OK, this has been great but my son's birthday party is today and the digital camera needs a new battery (Bob Dole stays up longer than this battery does) and blah blah blah.. busy day... yadda yadda.
8:48 am
Andy
kthxbai, I mean
9:45 am
hurshy
hurshy does not mind people joking around a bit, not at all. it was more the relentless every day joking on the same topic.
10:04 am
brittlefish.com
go (and here here, Hurshey)
10:05 am
hurshy
it's interesting, if you think about it, that all faith assumptions get made fun of except atheism (for it is, as many smarter than i have noted, as much a faith assumption to be sure that there is definitely not a God as it is to be sure that there is a God - agnostics are the ones without faith...and even they don't usually lack it because they have searched and questioned and not found, but because they have not cared to search)
10:06 am
hurshy
maybe that is WHY atheists don't realize that they have a faith - because they don't get made fun of - so they figure, their belief must be rational, and that's why it isn't mocked
10:07 am
hurshy
but, if p then q does not lead to if not q then not p.
10:09 am
hurshy
i would hypothesize that it is rather that the faith assumption of a certain type of God, of any type at all, really, lends itself to mocking... and it doesn't really do the people being mocked any harm - because if we happen to be right, then we're all set, and if we are wrong, all that happens is we die like the rest.
10:10 am
hurshy
whereas, believing in the absence of something provides no foothold, if you will, for mockery, AND if atheists are wrong, then, it's just sad that they are missing out on knowing God. which would make it sad to make fun of them.
10:12 am
brittlefish.com
i applaud your return, Hurshey
10:12 am
hurshy
my return?
10:12 am
hurshy
i didn't go anywhere
10:13 am
brittlefish.com
:) you seem to have been absent lately, at least when a.p.t. was spouting profusely of late
10:13 am
hurshy
i haven't been chatting on babble, but i've been here. and angie has toned it down so recently, like a sweetheart, out of kindness to me.
10:14 am
hurshy
unless i've just missed some rants :)
10:15 am
brittlefish.com
i guess my hackles have been in a wad lately since apt started going on again and you're the only one who has had the patient wit to calm the ... banter
10:16 am
hurshy
angie and i had a nice chat... oh, maybe a week ago...
10:16 am
brittlefish.com
thank you thank you bless you. your style is admirable.
10:18 am
hurshy
well, you see, there's really no reason at all to get hackles in a wad. in fact, my pity is probably more irritating to an atheist than any mocking could ever be to me.
10:18 am
hurshy
not that i have pity in order to irritate, of course.
10:21 am
hurshy
and incidentally, my comments are not at all meant to be construed as supporting the idea that you should believe "just in case" - was that pascal or descartes...? because, well, that just doesn't work. you can't MAKE yourself believe something you don't really believe.
10:22 am
brittlefish.com
as for hackles, completely understand and agree. but not having the delicate touch you possess just leaves me gritting my teeth -- not at apt, but at my lack of knowing what to say. don't want to stoke the fire, if you know what mean.
10:24 am
hurshy
well, i find that it helps me to remember that no matter what, we are all human beings and therefore should try to treat each other humanely and with respect.
10:24 am
brittlefish.com
pascal, i believe, offered the just-in-case argument, among others. pascal's wager.
10:25 am
hurshy
yes, silly pascal. should have stuck to math, philosophy didn't suit him as well.
10:26 am
brittlefish.com
:)
10:27 am
hurshy
but i don't have such admirable patience across the board, as people are well aware. my weakness of snobbery toward the unintelligent is most unfortunate.
10:28 am
hurshy
which brings us back to the old standby, "nobody's perfect".
10:28 am
hurshy
not even mary poppins.
10:30 am
brittlefish.com
:) i have found snobbery comes back around to bite me. as soon as i get high and mighty about anything, God finds a way to clear things up for me pretty well.
10:31 am
hurshy
it's odd because, actually, i can be very patient with lack of intelligence if i'm tutoring somebody in math.
10:32 am
hurshy
i guess maybe it is more frustrating to me when there's nothing i can do to help.
10:32 am
hurshy
or when, say, the unintelligent person is the leader of the free world.
10:35 am
brittlefish.com
yeah, the late 70s and most of the 90s were pretty bad :)
10:35 am
hurshy
jimmy carter, my favorite president, may not have been effectual, but he was not unintelligent.
10:36 am
brittlefish.com
:)
10:36 am
hurshy
and i rather don't think the charge can be fairly aimed at bill either.
10:37 am
hurshy
but then, perhaps bush, like jessica simpson, is not as dumb as he seems, but plays it up for effect, and takes advantage of the unintelligence of the masses.
10:40 am
hurshy
thankfully, whatever happens this election, our new president will be reasonably intelligent, and able to speak in coherent sentences.
10:43 am
hurshy
i'm being so irrational. because really, other weaknesses could be far more dangerous to the country, and i have really no idea which personal weaknesses ARE the most dangerous, and yet, because i find one particular one irritating, i'm harder on it and more anxious to have a president without it.
10:45 am
brittlefish.com
done. auto g+r. pretty easy after with g+r.
10:46 am
hurshy
sorry for blathering on while you were trying to focus :) i should go do some chores and errands and things. ttfn
10:48 am
brittlefish.com
okay, hurshy. have a good one. and while my opinion of mere world affairs differs from your's, kudos again for your deft handling of greater things. :)
10:50 am
Andy
I would strongly argue that atheism is NOT a faith in and of itself. But this is hardly the right forum for so deep a philosophical discussion. To me, it's simply a matter of evidence and what makes sense. My world view just plain works without the divine and I need no faith in that concept. I just have no need for it. There's nothing active in that belief any more than I need an active belief in gravity.
10:55 am
hurshy
but, dear andy, evidence and proof are two different things. neither of us has the latter, and we clearly see the evidence different ways, and what makes sense to us differs. my world view just plain works with the divine, and experientially, it doesn't FEEL like faith any more than yours does to you. for me, the fact that God exists is something i have just "known" ever since i can remember.
10:57 am
hurshy
and why isn't it the right forum? anytime's a good time for a good discussion, in my opinion, if it is a polite and respectful one.
10:58 am
hurshy
perhaps, though, you are then actually an agnostic, rather than an atheist?
11:01 am
hurshy
the difference being that an atheist would assert firmly that there is no God, while an agnostic might say, i have seen no evidence of one.
11:04 am
hurshy
i know, i know, i was going to do chores. but i had to take a scrabulous turn, and then i thought i'd just pop back and see if brittlefish had said goodbye... NOW i shall go.
11:12 am
Andy
Had to run downstairs to kick the inkjet printer. Imagine the nerve of the thing: refusing to print just because all of the ink has run out.
11:12 am
Andy
I prefer nice red wine or a nice single-malt for this kind of discussion. Not vicodin and pain. Catch me another day when I can be more coherent...
11:14 am
