I didn't, but our 911 got a few dozen calls from people who did feel it

so crazy!

yeah .... it woke us up! I asked my husband what it was, and he said "It's an earthquake!" and i said "Phhhhhbtttt....whatever!!"

I heard that it was centered on an off-shoot of the new madrid fault system

yup. when we moved to saint louis, we were "warned" about the new madrid fault line and the upcoming earthquake, but never really expected it. i work in insurance, and we try to sell earthquake insurance to all our customers...

but i don't think it ever really sunk in that there really could be an earthquake in the midwest until friday

well maybe business will pick up for you?

I went to college in illinois, about 45 miles east of STL, and I remember studying the new madrid earthquake in a geology class. that 1811 earthquake was a frightning one

yeah, it shifted the bed of the mississippi and made it run backwards fora few hours. they say that if it were to hit like that again both st. louis and memphis would be destroyed

thankfully they also say that a major earthquake hits through that fault line every 400 years or so...got about 200 more years to go before we'll get swallowed up here! ;)

I work for an art company (www.guild.com) and we are having a little contest tomorrow at the office... artful food. I am going to try to make a "glass cnady" bowl, and fill it with candied grapes and chocolate covered strawberries.

I think I know how I am going to make the bowl, but if you ever made hard candy I was going to ask for tips :)

yeah, I'm going to make the candy syrup, and press it between two identical bowls to makje the form, and then try to "paint" different colors on the surface with more hard candy syrup

i never made a hard candy bowl - but i've made a chocolate bowl by dippy the bottom of a balloon in melted chocolate. I waited for the chocolate to cool and redipped (repeated until bowl was thick enough)
then when totally cooled i popped the balloon

oh! that's not a bad idea, hoffs! I wonder if the candy will be too hot to do that, though? I've got to get it to 300 F.

yeah I do :) plus I'm also cooking up ostrich fillets tonight, and doing an hour-long skate, as part of my skate marathon training... god! it's gonna be a busy day
