Hello,
Time to start another ... easy one Dr God says
12:05 am
orb
it's going pretty slow for an easy :(
12:07 am
Penguin
Hi Orb,
Well, I'm always slow compared with you. 8-)
So far, so good.
12:07 am
scribble
yay an easy :)
12:08 am
Penguin
Hello Scribble,
Don't forget that sometimes "easy" is not so. 8-)
12:09 am
scribble
hi penguin :)
12:09 am
scribble
yes i know....easies can be experts on some days...
12:10 am
raggedyandy3478
ya, this ones not so easy, from how im starting out w/ it
12:11 am
scribble
well we have 23+ hours to slave over it! ;)
12:11 am
elara6
Yay optimism :)
12:12 am
raggedyandy3478
haha, yes, this is quite true
12:12 am
Penguin
Hi Raggedy,
I'm there. I'm sure of only five numbers so far. Time to start playing with red and green.
12:12 am
orb
nothing tricky - just long
12:12 am
scribble
great job orb!!!
12:12 am
raggedyandy3478
hey penguin, only 4 here, but refuse to use red and green, just as a personal challenge
12:13 am
orb
this one will be a real challenge without green marks - good luck
12:14 am
scribble
good job rcheramy!
12:14 am
Penguin
Well Raggedy, after a crazy school day (the Friday before a three day weekend is always exhausting ... when it is also this close to final exams, it is moreso), I'm using the aids.
12:15 am
raggedyandy3478
when does your school system get out?
12:16 am
Penguin
Believe it or not, that's a complicated question to answer:
My distance learning students have finals on Tuesday and Wednesday next week and graduate on 3 June. My in-house students have finals Monday, Tuesday, and Wednesday the following week and graduation is 11June.
12:17 am
raggedyandy3478
thats quite interesting, what are 'in-house' students? boarding school?
12:17 am
elara6
Where do you teach, Penguin?
12:18 am
Penguin
No -- sorry to be confusing. I teach some "regular" high school students and this year I have one class of students at a different high school that I teach in a "distance learning lab" with two-way live television.
Hi elara, I teach computer science in Wisconsin.
12:20 am
raggedyandy3478
thats pretty cool penguin
12:20 am
Penguin
I like it ... but the weather is not quite cool this time of year.
I have to wait until September or October until I get Penguinish weather as I prefer. 8-)
12:21 am
elara6
No kidding. Heard we're supposed to have mid-80s this weekend, and that's just too hot for May. (am in Michigan)
12:22 am
raggedyandy3478
penguin, whatever ur dealing with its nothing compared to Atlanta, it never gets down to what you prefer, which I like those temps to, as I am originally from Detroit
12:23 am
Penguin
We are supposed to hit the 90s this weekend. *blech*
You're right, Raggedy. I couldn't handle Atlanta. The big Peach is not peachy by me.
12:23 am
raggedyandy3478
haha, although, after 6 years you learn to appreciate the fact that you can wear fip flops all year long
12:25 am
Penguin
Although not to school, I tend to wear sandals and shorts when it's in the 40s. Around 25 degrees I put on a light sweater. For me, Penguin is not just a cute moniker.
12:27 am
raggedyandy3478
sounds like me, when i lived in detroit, but outside of the humidity and sheer heat, its not bad at all
12:27 am
raggedyandy3478
oh, and pollen season is ridiculous!
12:27 am
Penguin
And, other than that Mrs. Lincoln, how was the play?
12:30 am
raggedyandy3478
finally making some good headway on this puzzle
12:31 am
Penguin
Whew! I just finished. This is a rather challenging "easy".
12:32 am
Penguin
Time to wish you all a good night.
12:33 am
raggedyandy3478
gnight
12:33 am
elara6

Does Dr. Evil monitor chat? I mean, if I wanted to make a suggestion, how would I do it? I would love for the edges around each 9x9 to be darker. Thoughts?
11:20 am
twstedangel

it was easy, i was surprised
11:28 am
scribble
i got stuck on the 1/4/5 thing in one of the boxes...after that was figured out it was smooth sailing.
11:29 am
yul
i love smooth saling :)
11:30 am

hello.... are there any babblers around?
4:48 pm
jennsudoku
i can't get into babble no matter how hard i try
4:49 pm
LeslieAnn
oh, ok. i was just having trouble getting the site to load (the babble site, not this one) and wondered if anyone else had encountered the same problem
4:52 pm
achates
i just found babble wouldn't load at first, but it worked after refreshing.
4:53 pm
LeslieAnn
hmmm, i tried that, but the chat log won't work and it won't let me enter words. i'll try refreshing again, thanks
4:53 pm
LeslieAnn
btw, is that mega man in your icon?
4:59 pm
achates
sho nuff!
4:59 pm
achates
he's animated to run, but this system doesn't support the animation, i guess
5:01 pm

anyone know a date with an expert puzzle?
6:09 pm
Twinkie
scribble, i'm trying to do one now. march 28.
6:10 pm
scribble
thx twinkie im gonna try it too!
6:10 pm
Twinkie
i've tried doing that one umpteen times and have always messed up. i've never figured out a way of doing it without trying to guess at some point. if you get past that, let me know! :)
6:11 pm
scribble
i shall! :)
6:18 pm
Twinkie
scribble, how are you doing? i'm now at the point where i feel likei have toguess on something... :(
6:19 pm
scribble
hmmm....i think you have to guess on this one....read this:
http://www.sudokuoftheday.com/pages/tec
hniques-12.php
6:25 pm
Twinkie
thanks--that makes me feel better. all my failures have come from trying the ariadne's technique, which requires a bit more patience and time than i've had to follow it.
6:25 pm
scribble
me + patience = not very much...
6:26 pm
scribble
but i guess you have to suffer through it to get those 5 points...
6:31 pm
Twinkie
yep! the only two i have left to complete are this one and another expert from april. i really want those 10 points!
6:33 pm
scribble
i have 64 grids to finish.... :S
6:33 pm
scribble
hmm...i guessed and it seems to be working out...*fingers crossed*
6:34 pm
Twinkie
that's actually kind of fun to have that many--i was enjoying knocking them out. then i got to these last two and find myself avoiding them.
6:34 pm
Twinkie
you will find that you will have to do several guesses as you go.
6:34 pm
scribble
uh oh...
6:34 pm
scribble
did you finish?
6:35 pm
Twinkie
i almost think i need to print it out and do it.because sometimes i acciendally would save as checkpoint when i was out on a limb and mess myslef up (sorry for all the typos!)
6:35 pm
Twinkie
no, haven't finished--am still checking out the weblink you sent. am reading through all the techniques to see if i've done all of them before i guess. i wanted to see if there were any hidden triples, etc, but i truly can't find any--did you?
6:36 pm
scribble
yeah sometimes working them out on paper helps.
6:36 pm
scribble
and no...i cant find any way to use advanced techniques or deadly pairs or anything...
6:37 pm
Twinkie
i'm going to quit for now b/c my hubby is back and i should interact with him instead of just going "uh-huh" to him. ;-) good luck!!
6:37 pm
Twinkie
i will print it out.
6:38 pm
Twinkie
bye, and good luck scribble!
6:38 pm

Hi, Scribble! I haven't been by in a while--I see you've gone pro!
6:56 pm
SeedyV
I love being on the verge of finishing a puzzle than inadvertently leaving the page and losing all your work :D
6:57 pm
bookwyrmish
No saved checkpoints, SeedyV?
6:57 pm
SeedyV
Nah I was rolling, never felt like it was necessary :P
6:58 pm
scribble
hey bookwyrm!
6:58 pm
bookwyrmish
Ouch!
6:59 pm
bookwyrmish
Hey, scribble! School over and all that stuff? (Not that you found school challenging enough, but still it must be a relief to have the whole summer ahead?)
6:59 pm
SeedyV
I love entering solutions on a puzzle not based on logical elimination but memory of what I had from an earlier attempt
6:59 pm
scribble
i have to go right now, i'm walking the dogs...they are very anxious to get out...be back in about 10 min,!! :)
6:59 pm
SeedyV
Makes me feel like a rebel or something xD
6:59 pm
scribble
yes school is over...def. a relief, but i miss everyone..
6:59 pm
bookwyrmish

7:26 pm
scribble

7:28 pm
bookwyrmish
Oooh, thanks, scribble. I've spent today doing "progress reports" for the entire middle school, since I am a "specials" teacher I see all the kids, K-8!
7:28 pm
bookwyrmish
Is this really an easy? I must have burned out my brain today. I am filling it up with greens...
7:28 pm
scribble
oh wow that has to be tiring....what do you teach?
7:29 pm
scribble
this was one of the harder easies i think...
7:29 pm
bookwyrmish
Actually, the teaching is great! It's the darned progress reports... I teach library skills and technology, depending on the age (more tech the older they get).
7:29 pm
btwrt
i'm doing it without possibles, so it's taking me longer
7:30 pm
scribble
that sounds like fun for you and the students :)
7:31 pm
btwrt
OMG, my 19 month old son - who is very short - just figured out how to open doors. i'm so proud!!
7:32 pm
scribble
awww....yay!! :) this is a teary moment... :')
7:33 pm
bookwyrmish
Cool, btwrt. Opening doors at an early age! There's a quote for his photo album!
7:35 pm

7:36 pm

Woo Hoo, scribble gets the amazing holy cow expert award!
7:36 pm

7:36 pm
scribble
lol thanks bookwyrm!!!
7:37 pm
scribble
and thx for the pyro btwrt!
7:38 pm
scribble
so this award...does it have a cow with a halo or a cow with holes in it??
7:39 pm
scribble
or is it a woc?
7:41 pm
bookwyrmish
I dunno, I was kinda thinking of having an "untippable" cow with a halo.... cow tipping is something I've heard happens around here...
7:41 pm
bookwyrmish
What's a woc?
7:41 pm
scribble
a woc is a dyslexic cow. they say "oom"
7:42 pm
scribble
untippable cow...the cow would definately thank you for that!
7:43 pm
bookwyrmish
scribble, you deserve the "most fun I've had chatting" in days, award, too. Dunno what that would look like, though. Do they tip cows in your state, too? Have you read any Daniel Pinkwater about the magic mooscow?
7:44 pm
scribble
aww...thanks! and i have no idea if people tip cows in Tennessee...and i havent heard of Daniel Pinkwater.
7:45 pm
bookwyrmish
He's a whimsical author, sometimes heard on NPR in the summer. Writes for children on uup to adult, likes to be a bit non-conformist, and comes from,,,,yes,,,,hoboken, New Jersey.
7:47 pm
scribble
i'll have to check that out,,,,in the meantime, whats special about hoboken?
7:48 pm
bookwyrmish
It's the butt of many, many jokes. It's been called the "armpit" of the U.S. New Jersey gets picked on, but Hoboken really gets it...
7:48 pm
scribble
ohhhh....i see. thats mean....why pick on NJ?
7:51 pm
bookwyrmish
Yay! I finished, and just in time to leave for the movie. Have a great weekend, all. New Jersey is just outside of New York, not so glamorous, takes all its trash, has huge highways and factories, and people with odd accents. North Jersey is a suberb of Pennsylvania and New York dominates the rest, and it has nothing to say for itself. It has places like Secaucus, which is very smelly. So says my husband, who was born in East Orange, New Jersey!
7:52 pm
scribble
have a good time bookwyrm! and congrats! c-ya later :)
